This is the smallest owl in the world; an adult is less than sixinches long and weighs only 1.4 ounces! That’s about the sizeof a house finch. Elf owls occupy a limited area in the extremesouthwestern U.S., but they can be the most abundant owl inthe desert regions that they inhabit.This tiny owl of Central and South America barely rangesinto North America; it occurs in limited areas of southTexas and south-central Arizona.
