If the Event Transmitter is being installed, an XMLtemplate file will be created. If the server has existingconfigurations (defined in a 6.0 or 2005 starteam-server-configs.xmlfile or a 5.2 StarbaseServer.ini file), the XML template file is copiedto the appropriate configuration-specific subdirectories. The defaultroot directory for StarTeam Server is “/opt”, making the defaultinstallation directory “/opt/ starteamserver2005”.Assuming this installation directory for the StarTeam Server, theStarTeamMPX Server Event Transmitter component is installed inthe following locations.Event Transmitter binaries: The Event Transmitter files arealways stored in the same directory as the StarTeam Server(“/opt/starteamserver2005”).Event Transmitter XML Template File: This file is called“StarbaseMPXTransmitterTemplate.xml” and is placed in thedirectory “/opt/starteamserver2005/EventServices”.Configuration-specific XML Files: Configuration-specific EventTransmitter XML files are called“StarbaseMPXTransmitter.xml” and placed in a subdirectory ofthe EventServices directory. The name of the subdirectorymatches the name of the configuration. So, for example, theStarbaseMPXTransmitter.xml for a configuration called“Config1” is placed in the directory“/opt/starteamserver2005/EventServices/Config1”.10 StarTeam Server for Solaris Installation and Configuration Guide

Creating a New Server ConfigurationSee the StarTeam Installation Guide (install.pdf) for importantinformation about setting up the Oracle schema user. If you use thewizard in Server Tools to create a new server configuration, the schemauser can be created for you automatically, ensuring that the settings arecompatible with StarTeam.Using the Sample Server Configuration<strong>Borland</strong> provides a sample database with StarTeam Server.Oracle is the only database type currently supported for the StarTeamServer for Solaris. The StarTeam Server installation procedure createsand installs the following StarDraw Repository components.Creates the Samples directory and its subdirectories under theinstallation directory and copies the sample repository files intothem. Copies the Oracle export file, stardraw.dat, into theinstall_dir/starteamserver2005/Samples/StarDraw_Repository/Database directory. To install the StarDraw Repository on a Solaris system:1. If you have not already done so, create the following in Oracle: A database instance that will host the StarDraw database.StarDraw can share the database instance with otherdatabases. A schema user named “stardraw” with a password “stardraw” onthis instance.See the StarTeam Installation Guide (install.pdf) for moreinformation.2. Log in to Oracle as your Oracle user (typically “oracle”)3. Change directories to the following location:cd /starteamserver2005/Samples/StarDraw_Repository/Database4. Run the following from the command prompt:14 StarTeam Server for Solaris Installation and Configuration Guide

imp system/password file=stardraw.datfromuser=stardraw touser=stardraw commit=Ybuffer=64000 indexes=Ywhere password is the password for the “system” Oracle schemauser.5. Give all StarTeam Server users read-write permission on theSamples directory and its subdirectories.6. Create the new StarDraw server configuration in thestarteam-server-configs.xml file:a. Start the Server Tools utility by typing the following at thecommand prompt:/starteamserver2005/servertoolsThe Server Tools dialog opens.b. Click New.The Server Properties dialog opens.c. Type the following information in the dialog box: In the Configuration Name text box, type StarDraw In the Repository Text box, type the path to the StarDrawrepository. Click OK.Server Tools then starts the StarDraw server configuration. The first time you start a new server configuration StarTeamServer performs a number of startup tasks. This process maytake several minutes.Chapter 1: StarTeam Server 2005 17

When StarTeam Server initialization is finished, the Statuscolumn for the StarDraw server configuration changes to“Running”.Using a StarTeam ClientOnce a StarTeam client, such as the StarTeam Windows or Cross-Platform client, has been installed, you use it to access the StarTeamServer and use StarTeam. See the StarTeam User's Guide (user.pdf) formore details on opening existing projects and creating new ones.Understanding Differences in ServersStarTeam Server for Windows and for Solaris have slightly differentfeature sets.Because the StarTeam Server for Solaris uses the VARCHARdata type to store text, the maximum length of a text field inStarTeam client is limited to 8 KB.StarTeam Server for Solaris supports only the following locales:C locale, en_xx.ISO8859, en_US.UTF-8, de_DE.UTF-8,fr_FR.UTF-8, and ja_JP.UTF-8.Migrating Between PlatformsMigration from a StarTeam Server for Windows to a StarTeam Serverfor Solaris is supported only if performed with assistance from <strong>Borland</strong>professional services. Because the StarTeam Server for Windows storestext in the CLOB data type instead of the VARCHAR data type, datamay be lost.Uninstalling StarTeam ServerUninstalling StarTeam Server is a usually a simple procedure. However, if you tried to uninstall StarTeam server from a non-rootaccount, and the uninstall_StarTeam_Server_x_x.class has beenremoved, you need to use the package remove utility to remove packagesfrom your system. For example:# pkgrm STsrvr18 StarTeam Server for Solaris Installation and Configuration Guide

To uninstall StarTeam Server:Known IssuesLog in as root and type the following command:# java -classpath . uninstall_StarTeam_Server_x_xBelow is the list of the known issues for the StarTeam Server for Solaris: StarTeam Server for Solaris supports Oracle 9.0.1.3.0, 9.2.0.4,and 10.1.0.3.0, but requires the 32-bit version of Oracle Client.<strong>Borland</strong> engineering advises running servertools with the nohupoption. If you logout of a servertools session that was not usingthis option, the StarTeam server configurations started duringthat session may be halted.Large check-in or add operations can produce “File could not bememory-mapped. Data will be read into memory instead”warnings in the Server.Log. No data is lost in this situation. When using Java SDK 1.4.x during the installation of MPX, aNull Pointer Exception may occur while invoking GUIinstallation. This, however, does not affect the installationprocess.Purge database operation fails in some situations. Theworkaround is to close the Server Tools window, re-open it, andrun the purge operation again. The following problems are known when using PVCS:If you force branch a file in PVCS, it does not show up in theStarTeam view, even when you perform a Foreign Refresh (F6).The lock status of a file, when locked by non-ST users in PVCS,cannot be displayed in the StarTeam Win32 Client. For troubleshooting purposes, it is recommended that thePVCS_DEBUG environment variable be set prior to running aPVCS wrap. The PVCS_DEBUG environment variable causes adebug log called "PVCS-Prg.en-US.log" to be created.Chapter 1: StarTeam Server 2005 19
