02 | Changi Beach ClubMessage fromHonorary SecretaryAt the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 26th June2011, we were disappointed at the dismal attendance of merely46 members. AGM is an opportune time for members to get afeel of the well-being of the Club and to seek clarification (if any)on matters concerning the Club.Particularly at that Meeting, we addressed a member’s concernon our affiliation with The Grassroots’ Club (TGC). The mainconcern was the influx of TGC Members visiting our Club. Weclarified that from our records, their visit per month is quitesparse and on average only three to four TGC members at anyone time. However, there are still murmurs among our membersin and outside the Club. Our Land Lease will be expiring in Dec 2016 and we are alreadyworking very hard to secure an extension. While we are trying toreach the appropriate authority to negotiate positively to obtainthe extension, we need to prepare our cause and one of themis a community outreach. We see this affiliation with TGC asanother good avenue to increase the exposure of CBC sinceTGC’s membership of 3000+ comprises of grassroots leaderswho are professionals and businessmen who have given muchof their voluntary time serving the communities. We wish toreiterate that TGC members do not automatically mean just anymember from any of the Community Clubs across Singapore. They must be a registered member of TGC. Hopefully with thisexplanation our Members can understand the rationale of theaffiliation and would take kindly to visiting members from TGC.Their spending in our Club helps to increase our revenue asalready evidenced especially in our chalet utilisation.Immediately after our team took office in July 2010, ourChairman introduced “VISION 5000” whereby we embarkedupon a membership drive by offering attractive discounts toentice new memberships, conversion from Junior to Ordinarymembers and giving an opportunity window for those whohave missed out to convert at the age of 21 years old. Wehave not reached the eventual target of VISION 5000 as yetbut we have had reasonable success. Regrettably, duringthe same time, many members have resigned, resulting in asmall nett increase of membership. The positive point is thatour membership numbers are stabilised thus avoiding a dip insubscription income which may otherwise compel us to takeother drastic measures to raise funds, for example increasingsubscription fees like what a number of clubs have done. Weare now promoting “Term Membership (Convertible)” at a veryspecial price with an option to convert to Ordinary Membershipat a later date. We came up with this idea in view of the limitedtime left of our current Land Lease. We look forward to yoursupport to introduce members (member-get-member). For moreinformation, you may contact our General Manager. We have to raise funds for the lease extension! The drasticdrop in Jackpot takings has adversely affected our bottom-line.Therefore, if every member can recommend a new member, wewould have a great result.By the time you read this message, the Club’s restaurant, SeaBliss, would be in operation by the new caterer. As you mayalready know, Sea Bliss is operated by the Gim Tim Group ofRestaurants who operates several other outlets including theImperial Court located in TGC. This, I am sure have raised afew eyebrows. However, I wish to reassure all members thatdue processes were taken in our selection. In March this year, following our notice to the previous caterer to terminate theiragreement, notices were posted on the Club Notice boards andmembers were invited to recommend operators and also anopen invitation to outside operators to tender. As a result, threeoperators were short listed and after much deliberation andconsideration, the Management Committee awarded Gim TimGroup of Restaurants. Besides being well known and reputedfor their quality food, they expressed much keenness to take onthe challenge. They have in fact taken pains to try to establishtheir outlet in our Club with unique signature dishes. We hopeyou have or will make an effort to try it out.We have received complaints/feedback from our membersand we have, and will continue to take serious steps to rectify

Changi Beach Club | 03to our best ability but at times financial constraints mayhinder our desires. We have also received complimentsthough in smaller numbers. For these, we thank them for theencouragement. We are fully aware of our responsibilities when we took onthe challenge. By assuming the Management Committeeoffice, it does not mean that we are higher mortals thanour general Members. We are sure there are many morecapable people among our members who can do a betterjob. We are all volunteers and did not assume office forglory nor monetary gains. But we dare say that we havethe passion for the Club and keen to see the viability andcontinuity of our Club beyond 2016. To this end, the toppriority occupying our minds is how to get the extensionof our Land Lease. We urge all our fellow members tobear with us and support us in whatever way you can,for example like introducing new members to take up theattractive “Term Membership (Convertible)” special offer.Welcometo theCBCFamilyHenry Koh Chye LengJasper NeuteboomKhew Quek FahNg York ChyePhua Meng Hong DaisyOn the brighter side of things, 2011 is fast coming to an endand our Social Chairman and staffs are now busy puttingevery effort in organising our CBC Annual Dinner & Danceon 31st December 2011 to usher in the New Year 2012. Weare looking forward to your support for this main event of ourClub and hope we can have an enjoyable evening together.Taking this opportunity, The Management Committee andall staff of CBC would like to wish all members and families“Happy Deepavali”, “Merry Christmas” and “A Happy &Better 2012”.Yours trulyTan Kia KamHonorary Secretary

The event drewabout 120 party participants. Being a family event, small and big families, some withthree generations gathered for the evening. There was a thunderstorm in the late afternoon and continued to drizzle intothe evening. But the drizzle stopped when it was time for the Lantern Walk! Thechildren, who signed up for the walk, some with their parents excitedly lighted uptheir lanterns, which was included in their goodies bags. Once all were ready, theyled to the main entrance to the Boardwalk. From there, they proceeded along theboardwalk gingerly with lanterns in their small hands, afraid that their candles maybe extinguished and left in darkness. The walk took them all the way to the sailingpoint walk via cliff walk. It was a new, exciting and scary experience for some butmost enjoyed the peaceful night sea breeze and listening to the night jungle life.Once all were back to the Club, the cloudy sky started to open again. Those who registered for the BBQ night, gathered together at the BeerGarden and Beach Deck.
