Optical inserts are provided forvision correction, and outserts are available to reducefogging and sun glare and to protect against scratching.A check valve on the nose cup prevents exhaledair from fogging the lenses inside, and an air deflectordirects inhaled air over the lenses, which also helpsprevent fogging. 14,15 Other components include a carrier,a waterpro<strong>of</strong> bag, and a quick-d<strong>of</strong>f hood to protectthe neck and head areas (Figure 17-7). 16 <strong>The</strong> quick-d<strong>of</strong>fhood is not used when the mask is worn with parkaovergarments.M42A2 <strong>Chemical</strong>-Biological Combat Vehicle Mask<strong>The</strong> M42A2 CB mask, in the same series as theM40A1, is used by combat vehicle crews (Figure 17-8).<strong>The</strong> materials <strong>of</strong> construction and the basic featuresare identical to the M40A1. This maskhas a facepiece constructed <strong>of</strong> molded silicone rubbermaterial, and an integral, molded, polyurethane,one-piece panoramic lens bonded to the facepiece.Filtration is provided by one C2A1 canister mountedon either side <strong>of</strong> the facepiece. <strong>The</strong> primary voicemitteris located over the mouth area; a secondary voicemitterin the cheek area can be used with telephone handsets.<strong>The</strong> mask incorporates a drinking tube, whichconnects to the M1 canteen cap for hydration whilewearing the mask. <strong>The</strong> mask has a six-point, adjustablehead harness suspension made <strong>of</strong> elastic, whichcomes together in the center in the back <strong>of</strong> the headinto a rectangular patch <strong>of</strong> woven material. <strong>The</strong> maskcomes in three sizes: small, medium, and large.
