""""200 THE OF ARS.spite, then, of the retractation of Maximin, M. le Cure oiArs believes in La Salette."In the end of June 1858," writes the Abbe deaGareib, Chanoine of Lyons, I met at Grenoble, on hisway, like myself, to La Salette, M. 1 Abbe B, chaplain ofthe hospice of D . This priest is wholly devoted to goodworks, especially for the spiritual benefit of the military.A particular intention now brought him to the holy mountain. Some pious women under his direction had beenlong begging him to unite them in a congregation underthe invocation of Our Lady of La Salette.M. 1 Abbe B ,having long considered this plan,wished, before taking any further step, to consult OurLady on the very spot of her appearance. On the Abbe B sreturn home, he wrote to me as follows :I have had the happiness of a long conversationwith the holy cure*. There is no doubt that he iswholly forOur Lady of La Salette. Would that I could repeat to youword for word all that he said to me on the proposed work !His first salutation was an inquiry when I was goingtobegin; though I had not said a single word on the subject,and he had no means of knowing anything whatever aboutit. This is certainly most extraordinary. I was so muchstruck by it, that I have not yet recovered from my amazement. There must now be no further hesitation. Theholy interpreter of the will of Heaven desires that the workshould proceed without further delay. But is it quiteoartftin, father?" said I, as I took leave of him "does;
