Concerned by the tragic conflict and cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>gbloodshed <strong>in</strong> Cambodia, the Paris Conference on Cambodia wasconvened, at the <strong>in</strong>vitation of the Government of the FrenchRepublic, <strong>in</strong> order to achieve an <strong>in</strong>ternationally guaranteedcomprehensive settlement which would restore peace to thatcountry. The Conference was held <strong>in</strong> two sessions, the firstfrom 30 July to 30 August 1989, and the second from 21 to 23October 1991.2. The Co-Presidents of the Conference were H. E.Mr. Roland DUMAS, M<strong>in</strong>ister for Foreign Affairs of the FrenchRepublic, and H. E. Mr. Ali ALATAS, M<strong>in</strong>ister for ForeignAffairs of the Republic of Indonesia.3. The follow<strong>in</strong>g States participated <strong>in</strong> the Conference :Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, the People'sRepublic of Ch<strong>in</strong>a, the French Republic, the Republic of India,the Republic of Indonesia, Japan, the Lao People's DemocraticRepublic, Malaysia, the Republic of the Philipp<strong>in</strong>es, theRepublic of S<strong>in</strong>gapore, the K<strong>in</strong>gdom of Thailand, the Union ofSoviet Socialist Republics, the United K<strong>in</strong>gdom of Great Brita<strong>in</strong>and Northern Ireland, the United States of America and theSocialist Republic of Vietnam.In addition, the Non-Aligned Movement was represented atthe Conference by its current Chairman at each session, namelyZimbabwe at the first session and Yugoslavia at the secondsession.4. At the first session of the Conference, Cambodia wasrepresented by the four Cambodian Parties.
