4Total reach across all our <strong>services</strong> (HEADLINES)In 2011:<strong>Macmillan</strong> made 8.2 million interventions with people affected by cancerWe supported 4.9 million people affected by cancer in the UK through at least one <strong>of</strong> our<strong>services</strong> – an 11% increase on 2010o This 4.9 million includes:• 1.7 million people with a cancer diagnosis• 640,000 carers <strong>of</strong> people with cancer• 2.6 million other people affected by cancer (including family, friends,colleagues, and worried well)We secured a total <strong>of</strong> £210.6 million in benefits and grants for people affected by cancer<strong>The</strong>re are around 2 million people living with cancer in the UK (this is rising to around 4million by 2030), and so in 2011 we were reaching over three in four <strong>of</strong> the 2 millionpeople living with cancer through at least one <strong>of</strong> our <strong>services</strong>.If we also include our ‘force for change’ help - for example influencing free prescriptionsand influencing free hospital parking in many hospitals - we can say that we are reachingand improving the lives <strong>of</strong> everyone living with cancer in some way.However it’s important to remember that not everyone who has had cancer needs oursupport - for example people who were diagnosed with cancer many years ago who arenot experiencing late effects <strong>of</strong> cancer.
