The bridge connects the Harbor Tunnel thruway Brooklynarea to the toll plaza for the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. The bridge runs east-west and carries fourlanes <strong>of</strong> vehicular traffic, two in each direction. A concrete median separates the two directions<strong>of</strong> traffic. The bridge does not possess sidewalks. The bridge spans the CSX Railroad trackswith a vertical clearance <strong>of</strong> approximately 22 feet. The "K" truss portion <strong>of</strong> the bridge measuresjust over 977 feet in length. Piers that consist <strong>of</strong> four square concrete columns each support theapproach spans to the bridge and concrete girders. A large, centrally located concrete piersupports the "K" truss. The superstructure <strong>of</strong> the truss is composed <strong>of</strong> 28 full-sized "K" panels.Two smaller panels forming the end curve <strong>of</strong> the truss are located at each end <strong>of</strong> the structure.The substructure <strong>of</strong> the truss is composed <strong>of</strong> steel stringers and floor beams supporting aconcrete-filled steel grid deck.Statement <strong>of</strong> Significance:The I 895 Bridge (MIHP # B-4632, Bridge BC07800) over the CSX (formerly Baltimore &Ohio) Railroad tracks is <strong>historic</strong>ally associated with the construction <strong>of</strong> the Baltimore HarborTunnel.
