6.3 Model Descriptions6.3.1 Physical ModelA scale model <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> naturally ventilated prototype build<strong>in</strong>g was created at one-twelfth scale, andevaluated us<strong>in</strong>g air as <strong>the</strong> fluid. The central section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g was modeled, encompass<strong>in</strong>gtwo floors <strong>of</strong> open floor <strong>of</strong>fice plan and <strong>the</strong> central atrium. The model neglected <strong>the</strong> stairwells at<strong>the</strong> east and west ends <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> service core. The build<strong>in</strong>g is three stories <strong>in</strong> heighton <strong>the</strong> north half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g, and two on <strong>the</strong> south half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g. The north half <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ground level <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g was excluded because it consisted <strong>of</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g rooms that are closed<strong>of</strong>f from <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> build<strong>in</strong>g and can be mechanically ventilated when <strong>in</strong> use.Figure 27.
