Moving EBP Forward: It is Time!20th NATIONAL EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE CONFERENCEjointly sponsored byThe University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care;The University of Iowa College of Nursing, the Hartford Center of Geriatric Excellence,and College of Nursing Office for Nursing Research;The Center for Comprehensive Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) – Funded by VA Health ServicesResearch & Development – in Partnership with the Iowa City VA Medical Research Foundation;and Sigma Theta Tau International – Gamma ChapterPurpose: This program addresses the state-of-the science of evidence-based nursing practices as we celebrate the 20 thanniversary of this conference. We will highlight the progress in evidence-based practices that has influenced patientoutcomes and report progress towards elimination of practices based on tradition, or “sacred cows”. Current and futurestrategies for successful implementation and integration of EBP will be presented, with opportunities for networking andsharing ideas.Thursday, April 18, 2013Conference AnnouncementThe afternoon pre-conference tracks relate to use of the Iowa EBP model to guide practice and move away from traditionalpractices. Sessions include in-depth discussions on moving select practices forward through the EBP process. The daywill conclude with an “Ask the Expert” panel and a choice of facilitated poster discussions and discussion groups.Friday, April 19, 2013The main conference will spotlight EBP state of the science and progress made. Opportunities for successful movementinto the future of nursing and health care will be discussed. Program topics will include selective use of evidence,addressing sacred cow practices, and reporting exemplars of change. Of particular interest are abstracts related to EBP or “sacred cow” practices, the role of nursing leadership inpromoting EBP, and examples of effective approaches to eliminating “sacred cows” in real world issues and settings. Onlycompleted projects/studies will be considered for paper presentations. Works-in-progress may be submitted for a posterpresentation. This is an opportunity to attend and present to a national audience of nurses interested in improving patient,organizational, and community outcomes through use of evidence-based practices.Abstracts accepted as papers will be presented on April 18 or 19, 2013, as concurrent 15-20 minute paperpresentations. Poster presentations will be on display throughout the Pre-Conference and Conference, Thursday afternoon,April 18 th through Friday, April 19 th .
