The same high moral and personal standards as requiredof certified teachers by the laws of the State of Nebraska.Violation of institutional and/or Board of Trustees policiesor regulations can be sufficient cause for dismissal fromthe teacher education program.8. Teacher education students shall be free from thosephysical, emotional, and mental impairments such aswould cause revocation of a teaching certificate by theState Board of Education.9. Successful completion of assessment portfoliorequirements.Gateway #2Students must pass through Gateway #2 in order to enrollin any 300-400 level EDU or SPD course. Note: No studentwill be permitted to enroll in any 300 or 400 level EDU andSPD prefix courses until Gateway #2 is passed. This does notapply to EDU 303 Developmentally Appropriate Practices forthe Young child, EDU 367 Human Relations, or to courses withprefixes other than EDU or SPD.The second of four Gateways consists of the followingbenchmarks that must be accomplished:1. Completion of the Pre-Professional Skills Test(PPST) with minimum scores of 170 (Reading), 171(Mathematics), and 172 (Writing) on the exam. Scoresmust be on file in the Field Experience Office.2. Favorable recommendation from each endorsement areaon file in Field Experience Office.3. Favorable recommendation from education faculty on filein Field Experience Office.4. Favorable recommendation from WSC general facultyoutside of the School of Education and Counseling on filein the Field Experience Office.5. Maintain at least a 2.5 overall GPA.6. Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in all professional educationcoursework (when two or more courses have beencompleted).7. Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in all endorsement areacoursework (when two or more courses have beencompleted).8. Evidence of curriculum development/instruction potentialas verified through EDU 275 instructor and evidence oftechnology proficiency verified through coursework ordemonstration. (ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE LEVEL , ANDEARLY CHILDHOOD UNIFIED ONLY).9. Students must earn a C or higher in all 300-400 EDU andSPD coursework and all professional education courses.10. Earn a C or higher on all SPD endorsement courses.(SPECIAL EDUCATION ONLY)11. Approval of the Professional Progress Committee to takerequired program courses beyond Gateway #2.12. Successful completion of assessment portfoliorequirements.Approval ProcessThe names of students who have met the criteria forGateway #2 will be submitted to the Professional ProgressCommittee for approval. Applicants will be notified in writingof the action of the Committee. Applicants not approved forGateway #2 will be notified and may be given the opportunityto meet identified benchmarks to the satisfaction of theProfessional Progress Committee.Students who transfer from other institutions should meetwith the Dean of Education or his/her designee regardingtheir placement relative to the established Gateways. Transferstudents who do not complete this process during their firstsemester at WSC will not be allowed to enroll in subsequenteducation course work.Gateway #31. Completion of all hours required for each field and/orsubject endorsement.5. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all course work, in each fieldand subject endorsement, and in all professional educationcourses.6. Completion of all EDU/SPD 300-400 level andprofessional education course work with a “C” grade (i.e.2.0) or better.7. Completion of all professional education course work toinclude at least 100 clock hours of pre-student teachingfield experience.8. Completion of all appropriate application forms.9. Affirmation under oath that the candidate has not beenconvicted of a felony, nor misdemeanor involvingabuse, neglect, or injury to any person, nor has any otherconviction involving moral turpitude.Requirements for Directed TeachingUndergraduate teacher candidates are required to have aminimum of one field endorsement or two subject endorsements(except the English subject endorsement which stands alone).Graduate students preparing for initial certification may selectfrom either subject or field endorsements or a combinationthereof, but must declare at least one endorsement. Each fieldendorsement requires 12 credit hours of tuition and fees and afull semester of Directed Teaching. Each subject endorsementrequires 6 credit hours of tuition and fees.Candidates who elect to complete two field endorsementsmust pay for 24 credit hours of tuition and fees and complete
