In particular,students will learn about the nature of interpersonal, smallgroup, public speaking, and organizational communication.Beyond this, the student will prepare and present speechesand public presentations in interpersonal, small group,organizational, and public speaking settings and contexts.“C” or above required for teacher education and businessadministration students.CNA 101 Introduction to Theatre (3) Understanding andappreciation of the art of theatre, including dramaticliterature, technical theatre, production process, and criticalevaluation. (2 hours laboratory)CNA 162 Radio Production I (3) Radio production techniquesincluding analog and digital recording, broadcast writing,announcing, remote recording, and digital editing software.This course will also introduce students to broadcastvocabulary and radio station management structures.CNA 201 Small Group Communication (3) Explores thefunctions of discussion in our society, problem solving,group dynamics, and analysis of the operative forceswithin the group. Emphasis on skills of group discussion,participation in decision-making groups, leadership,organization, and evaluation.CNA 210 Interpersonal Communication (3) Prerequisite:CNA 100. The study of theories and models ofinterpersonal communication that enhance understandingand development of interpersonal relationships. Skillsare developed in listening behavior, dyadic interaction,relationship and conflict management, verbal and nonverbalcommunication, and intrapersonal processing.CNA (J, R, V) 220/320/420/520 Mass Communication ArtsWorkshop (.5-3) Prerequisite: approval of instructor andadvisor. Practical application of skills to direct, produce,and coordinate curricular and co-curricular activities inbroadcasting and journalism. Title varies with major area.Workshop hours beyond those required in CNA majors maybe taken as electives in the CNA majors or as general electivecredits with the permission of the advisor and departmentchair.CNA T220/T320/T420/T520 Theatre Workshop (.5-3) Prerequisite:Approval of instructor and advisor. Practical applicationof skills in stagecraft, lighting, costuming, acting,and/or directing for mainstage production. Enrollment inCNA T220/T320/T420/T520 is required for participation inmainstage productions. Majors must enroll every semesterwhile in attendance at WSC. Workshop hours beyond thoserequired in Theatre may be taken as electives in the CNAmajors, but only with the permission of the advisor anddepartment chair.CNA 223 Acting (3) Exploration of basic acting techniquesand performance theory through object exercises,monologues, and scene work. (3 hours lab)CNA 232 Stagecraft (3) Fundamentals of scenic constructionand painting techniques, sound, properties, and stagemanagement. (4 hours lab)CNA 240/440 Intercollegiate Forensics (1-3) Participation inintercollegiate forensics as well as other public appearances.May be repeated for up to six semester hours.CNA 252 Public Address (3) Prerequisite: CNA 100. Thecourse builds upon the public speaking skills developed inCNA 100. Students will learn different styles of delivery ofspeeches, further learn about the development of arguments,how to adapt to audiences of different cultures, and howto be a critical audience member when others are givingspeeches.CNA 262 Writing for the Mass Media (3) An introductionto writing for print, electronic media and corporatecommunications. Writing skills will be emphasizedand differences in writing for various avenues of masscommunication writing will be explored. The course willgive students the writing fundamentals on which othercourses in broadcasting and journalism will expound.CNA 263 Introduction to Mass Communication (3) Anoverview of the historical development, technologicalevolution, current status, and future direction of masscommunication. Differences between mass communicationsystems will be explored, as well as mass communicationeffects on its audiences.CNA 280 News Writing (3) An introduction to journalismand journalistic writing. Students in this course work asbeginning reporters for the college newspaper.CNA 290 Editing and Copy Editing (3) Various copy editingactivities—learning proofreading symbols, reviewinggrammar formation, writing headlines, and study typespecifications, the use of graphics, and the ideologicaleffects of editorial decisions—will be pursued to developaggressiveness, memory, curiosity, imagination, discretionand skepticism.CNA 301 Advertising Copywriting (3) An introduction to thestrategies of writing and speaking for journalism and mass
