Focus is onfurther developing accounting and business skills that willadd value to organizations. These include financial analysisskills, financial forecasting skills, research (or professionalstandards) skills, decision modeling skills, decision-makingskills, communication skills, teamwork skills, and strategicthinking skills. Involves analysis of case situations inwhich knowledge from courses in law, financial accounting,and cost accounting are integrated and applied.BUS 449 Risk Analysis and Accounting Controls (3) Prerequisites:BUS 340, 342, 348. Study of business risk identification,accounting internal controls evaluation, and responseto control deficiencies development. Involves analysisof cases in which knowledge from courses in financialaccounting, cost accounting, and accounting informationsystems is integrated and applied.BUS 454 Total Compensation (3) Prerequisite: Junior Standing.This course focuses on the design and management oftotal compensation programs. The course will examinethe internal consistency and external competitiveness ofwage structures and how organizations assign pay rates tovarious jobs. Students will apply procedures to conduct jobevaluation, and tie pay plans to employee performance andskill development. Further, they will assess and recommendbenefits plans, such as healthcare insurance, pensions, andleagally-mandated benefits; and other incentives, such astuition reimbursement, flexible schedules.BUS 455 Employment Law and Labor Relations (3)Prerequisite: Junior Standing. This course focuses on theworkplace relationship between employer and employee.Students will explore activities that maintain relationshipsand working conditions that balance employer andemployee needs and rights. Further, students will identifyplans and policies which provide a safe and secure workingenvironment and protect the organization from liability.BUS 456 Strategic Human Resource Management (3)Prerequisites: BUS 354, 355, 454, 455. This courseexamines the role of human resource managementpractitioners and leaders as a strategic partner to businessunit leaders.. Students will be able to demonstratehow strategic human resource management influences,contributes to and supports the organization’s mission,values, and strategic objectives. Further, students will applytools, such as a human resource management scorecard,and processes to formulate policies, conduct cost/benefitanalysis for human resource management interventions, andmeasure human resource management’s contributions toorganizational effectiveness.BUS 457 Topics in Globalization (3) Prerequisite: JuniorStanding. Current or special issues in a changing globaleconomy will be examined in a multi-disciplinary approach.The course offers students the opportunity to researchand discuss current issues facing society and the impacton functional areas of international business, such asmarketing, finance, banking, economics, management, andhuman resources. Course may not be repeated.BUS 470 Marketing Management (3) Prerequisites: BUS 374and completion of 105 semester credit hours. The capstonemarketing course designed to help the student with thetransition to the marketing world. Included in the coursewill be current literature and research, in-depth study ofmarketing plans and strategies, and/or marketing cases/marketing simulations.BUS 471 Principles of Supervision (3) Prerequisite: JuniorStanding. This course concentrates on the skills needed byfirst-line supervisors. Issues covered include the following:supervisor’s job description, organizing an effectivedepartment, acquiring employees, motivation, effectiveleadership, communication skills, supervising groups andwork teams, labor relations and supervisory challenges inthe 21st century.BUS 475 Consumer Purchasing and Motivation (3)Prerequisite: BUS 370. The consumer’s role in themarketing structure. Patterns of consumer expenditure andthe psychological and controlling activities involved in theadministration of a marketing program.BUS 476 Retail Management (3) Prerequisites: BUS 350,370. Retail store organization and operation. Topicsinclude location and layout, retail buying techniques,human relations, and employee supervision. Pricing andmerchandising are explored.BUS 479 Advertising Plans/Campaign (3) Prerequisite: BUS374. The student will develop an advertising plan for aproduct, service, or business complete with objectives,positioning statement, media plan, budget, and creativework.BUS 480 Business Research (3) Prerequisite: BUS 226and Junior Standing. Survey of research proceduresand techniques including information sources, designs,instrumentation, analysis, interpretation and presentation ofresearch findings.Eligible seniors may enroll in 500 level graduate courses.Students who intend to apply 500 level courses toward agraduate program need to make that request to the Dean ofthe School of Business and Technology.Graduate CoursesBUS 507 Foundations of Accounting and Finance (3)Prerequisite: Approval of MBA Director. This course isdesigned to provide the student with a working knowledgeof the fundamentals of accounting and finance from adecision maker’s perspective. (MBA foundation course)
