This course identifiesthe foundations of human resources in an organizationalsetting. The course introduces students to the history ofhuman resource management and its role, and providesan overview of human resource management including:workforce planning and employment; employeerecruitment, selection, orientation, performance appraisals;human resource development; job analysis and design;compensation and benefits; employee relations; and HumanResource Information Systems (HRIS).BUS 370 Principles of Marketing (3) Prerequisite: JuniorStanding. A study of the distribution of manufacturedgoods, the field of marketing, people as markets,classification of goods, markets and services, wholesale,manufacturer’s selling policies, marketing research, andtrends in marketing.BUS 372 Selling and Sales Management (3) Prerequisite:BUS 370. An examination of sales as a career and thepractical application of the principles and practices ofprofessional selling. Topics include an examination ofthe sales executive’s role as a participant in the marketingmanagement team; the sales executive’s duties andresponsibilities; and the planning and implementation ofsales and marketing programs.BUS 374 Principles of Advertising (3) Prerequisite: BUS 370.A study of advertising as a communications strategy and afunction of marketing. Focus is on consumer psychologyand the various media approaches to advertising andpromotion.BUS 408 Business Ethics (3) Prerequisite: Junior Standing.This course will examine theoretical structures that shape orinfluence Western thought and review specific professionalcodes of ethics relevant to business majors. Students willlearn a decision-making framework for examining andarticulating well-reasoned positions on ethical issues inbusiness.BUS 418 Legal Environment of Business (3) Prerequisite:Junior Standing. This course focuses on public,administrative, and regulatory law, and the relationship ofbusiness to the legal structure. Topics include employeeand consumer protection, environmental regulation,labor law, monopolies, price-fixing, and the regulation ofdomestic and international trade.BUS 420 Strategic Management (3) Prerequisites: BUS 322,350, 352, 370, or instructor approval, and completionof 105 semester credit hours. Involves analysis of casesin which knowledge from basic courses in marketing,accounting, finance, management, and economics isintegrated and applied. Demonstrated interrelationshipbetween the functions of business, complexities of businessproblems, and strategic management models are addressed.BUS 423 Advanced Managerial Finance (3) Prerequisite:BUS 324. Advanced development of the financespecialization with major emphasis on the theoretical issues.Topics include risk and return, forecasting techniques, capitalbudgeting, and financial structure. Theory will be combinedwith application through the use of case analysis.BUS 424 Investments (3) Prerequisites: BUS 322 and eitherBUS 344 or 348. Topics include types of securities, securityprices and markets, economics of personal selection ofsecurities, outlook for specific industries.BUS 427 Bank Management (3) Prerequisite: BUS 322. Thiscourse studies banking from a commercial bank perspective.Topics include bank asset-liability management; policies andpractices for reserves, loans, and investments; new problemsand innovations; and internal factors.BUS 435/535 Student to Business Consulting (3) Prerequisite:Approval of department chair. Provides intensivemanagement counseling for small businesses utilizingqualified college students in business disciplines underfaculty guidance. The students meet frequently over thecourse of a full semester (or more) with the small businessowner to identify and solve management problems. Adetailed case report is written and given to the client. Maybe taken once at the undergraduate level and repeated once atthe graduate level.BUS 440 Assurance Services (3) Prerequisite: BUS 348. Introductionto the concepts and practice of accounting professionalservices including audits, other attestation services,and other assurance services. Topics include professionalethics and responsibilities, legal liability, professionalstandards, risk assessment, engagement planning, samplingand other evidence accumulation, evidence evaluation, andresults reporting.BUS 444 Governmental Accounting (3) Prerequisites: BUS 241and Junior Standing. A study of the accounting techniquesand methodology utilized for government and other nonprofitorganizations. Coverage includes state and localgovernments, colleges and universities, hospitals, voluntaryhealth and welfare agents, and other non-profit organizations.BUS 445 Federal Tax Accounting I (3) Prerequisite: JuniorStanding.
