A Graduate Application for Admission and admission feesent to the WSC Admissions Office (no fee required for previousWSC students).2. An official transcript of undergraduate and graduatestudy sent directly from the awarding institutions to the WSCAdmissions Office (not required if all previous work is fromWSC).3. GRE test scores sent to the WSC Graduate Office withinthe first semester of enrollment. Students seeking to enroll in aMaster’s degree program without GRE scores may be provisionallyadmitted for one (1) semester.4. Names and addresses of three references sent to the WSCGraduate Office. International students should refer to theGraduate Admission/Registration section of the WSC catalogfor TOEFL and other specific admission requirements.Transfer of CreditA maximum of nine graduate credits (15 from anotherNebraska University or 18 from the Nebraska <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>s),subject to evaluation by the Dean of Natural and Social Sciences,may be transferred from another graduate institutionand applied toward a degree. Only transfer credit of “B” grade(a “B-” is not acceptable) or better is accepted from institutionsother than the Nebraska <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>s. Credit that hasMASTER OF SCIENCEIN EDUCATION (MSE) DEGREESchool of Education & CounselingBrandenburg Education BuildingOverviewThe School of Education and Counseling at WSC offersa Master of Science in Education (MSE) degree to meet theneeds of diverse groups of graduate students. While the Schoolof Education and Counseling assumes that most candidatesfor this degree come from the ranks of professional educators,individuals not holding teaching credentials may be consideredfor admission to a program provided they meet all admissioncriteria. It should be noted that conferral of the MSE does notnecessarily lead to a professional teaching endorsement.Conceptual FrameworkThe creation and delivery of all graduate programs ineducation are guided by a conceptual framework which stipulatesthat program graduates will be educational leaders andstewards inquiring, reflecting, and implementing innovativesolutions through teaching, learning and service. All studentsmust demonstrate growth in the following graduate outcomes.1. Candidates inquire about relevant educational issuesand support present practices or initiate constructivechanges.2. Candidates reflect on relevant educational issues withbreadth, depth, and rigor ensuring improvement andencouraging excellent implementation of professionalpractices.3. Candidates implement responsible change in a sup-been applied towards another earned degree from another collegeis not accepted for advanced study. Credit earned throughcorrespondence courses is not accepted.Program of StudyIn the term of the enrollment immediately following admissionto a graduate degree program, the student should completea Program of Study indicating the courses that have beenagreed upon and approved by the advisor and department chair.Program of Study forms may be obtained from the student’sadvisor, Graduate Office or appropriate School office. Afterthe forms are completed, they should be signed by the specifiedindividuals. Students wishing to make changes in theirProgram of Study need approval of their advisor, departmentchair, and the Dean of Natural and Social Sciences. Substantialchanges may require a new Program of Study form. The graduatestudent must complete at least 55% of the course work fromfull-time WSC faculty to meet the residency requirement.Course PrerequisitesStudents are not allowed to enroll for courses unless theyhave satisfied the necessary course prerequisites. The studentshould review the appropriate catalog descriptions.GovernanceThe WSC MS program is governed by the applicableinformation contained in the WSC Graduate <strong>Catalog</strong>. Studentsshould review this catalog for general graduate program information.portive manner meeting the needs of individuals andcommunities empowering them for continuous growth.4. Candidates create, organize, maintain, and evaluatecaring communities providing leadership and stewardshipfor educational endeavors.5. Candidates communicate effectively providing leadershipand stewardship for educational communities.6. Candidates possess and demonstrate the values, demeanor,and reflective decision-making of professionals.MSE ProgramsStudents interested in pursuing the Master of Science inEducation degree may choose from one of the following programsdescribed in greater detail below.1) School Administration2) Counseling3) Exercise Science4) Special Education5) Curriculum and InstructionEach of the five MSE programs has a professor-in-chargewho can be contacted for specific program information. To findout who currently serves as the professor-in-charge, contact theSchool of Education and Counseling.Degree OptionsIn developing a program of study, graduate students mayselect from two different program options, thesis or non-thesis.To change from one program option to another—after the programhas commenced—the student must have the approval ofthe Dean of the School of Education and Counseling.
