Studentsshould review this catalog for general graduate programinformation.MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREEOrganizational ManagementSchool of Natural and Social SciencesConnell HallProgram DescriptionThe MS degree has been collaboratively designed by thethree <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>s (<strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> [WSC], Chadron<strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> [CSC], Peru <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> [PSC]) and will substantiallyuse courses currently offered by the <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>s.Some courses are available online. The program is a cooperativedegree program whereby students in the <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>System may complete graduate courses at any of the Nebraska<strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>s and apply those credits toward completion oftheir M.S. degree. Prior learning credit would not be applied tothis degree. This program is a value-added degree designed toadd new knowledge to the students’ base of knowledge, skillsand concept integration.The program will consist of a common core of requiredcourses consisting of eighteen (18) credit hours. The requiredeighteen hours will include six (6) credit hours of researchdesign and methods courses and twelve (12) credit hours ofcourses in organizational management.Program ObjectivesThe specialization in Sports & Recreation Managementis aimed at sports enthusiasts with undergraduate degrees ineducation, business, or the liberal arts who are ready to leveragea multidisciplinary graduate approach into a career in physicalactivity settings such as sports industry management, coaching,administration, or sports and recreation sales and marketing.This specialization offers students a market advantage bydelivering business skills with practical industry knowledgeand experience and includes any combination of skills related toplanning, organizing, leading, and evaluating within the contextof an organization or department whose primary product orservice is related to sport and/or physical activity.General Degree RequirementsTotal Semester CreditsA total of thirty-six (36) credit hours is required to completethe MS degree program in organizational management.GradesA minimum overall average of “B” (3.00 on a 4.00 scale)will be required of all graduate students. This average is basedon all WSC courses attempted. In computing this average,no grade below a “C” will be accepted toward completion ofthe MS. A “C-” is not acceptable. A course receiving an S/NCgrade cannot be used in the MS degree program. At least 30credit hours must be beyond the common body of knowledgecomponent in courses normally reserved for graduate students.Time LimitCommencing with the date of first course registration,all requirements for the degree must be met within seven (7)calendar years. Courses can be no more than 7 years old at thetime of graduation.Oral Review & Final ExaminationUpon completion of fifteen hours, application for candidacywill be made through an oral review with the programfaculty. Students will make a request for the oral review to thedepartment chair just prior to the completion of fifteen hours.Seven weeks prior to graduation each student is required tofile for a written exam prepared by the appropriate departmentstaff.Program Admission Criteria1. One official set of transcripts from the undergraduateinstitution conferring the baccalaureate degree must be sentdirectly to the WSC Admissions Office.2. All graduate students seeking an MS degree must submitscores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)General Test within the first semester of enrollment. GREscores will be used as an assessment tool along with othercriteria to determine admission status. Each program willdetermine the manner in which the requirement is to beadministered. See the specific information for each programconcerning these admission requirements. The testmay be taken at any Educational Testing Service testingcenter. Further information concerning the administrationof the GRE may be obtained through the Graduate Office.Students seeking to enroll in a Master’s degree programwithout GRE scores may be provisionally admitted for one(1) semester.
