152 <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>Non-degree / Special Post-Graduate Student StatusThis status is for those students who intend to take an occasional course for personal enrichment or transfer to another institution.Since a public college has an obligation to make its resources available for a broad range of purposes not confined to thepursuit of specific degrees, anyone holding an accredited baccalaureate or professional degree may register for individual coursesat the graduate level without making application to a degree program. Submission of an official transcript is optional, but recommendedif you indicate this type of admission. Special Post-Graduate students must meet prerequisite conditions, as determinedby the instructor, for admission into specific courses. Special Post-Graduate students are not admitted to the Graduate School,they are only given permission to enroll in graduate courses. Should a Special Post-Graduate student wish to work toward agraduate degree, an additional endorsement, or certificate renewal at a later date, he/she will be required to apply for admission toa graduate program and file an official undergraduate transcript sent to the <strong>College</strong> directly from the degree-granting institution.Courses taken as a Special Post-Graduate student will be applicable to a graduate degree only with approval of a facultyadvisor and permission from the appropriate School office.MASTER IN BUSINESSADMINISTRATION (MBA) DEGREESchool of Business & TechnologyGardner BuildingProgram DescriptionThe Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a professionalgraduate degree designed primarily to provide an intenseeducational experience for students who wish to assume positionsof increasing responsibility in business.The WSC MBA curriculum consists of two major components.The first component is described as “Common Body ofKnowledge” (CBK) courses. This group of courses includesan introductory level course in each functional area of business.Students who have an undergraduate degree in businesswill typically have completed most, if not all, of these courses.The second curriculum component is the professional graduatecourses.The WSC MBA program requires 30 graduate credit hours.The MBA program is broad in nature and requires students tocomplete a structured program of one or more courses in eacharea of business, and also permits students to complete a smallspecialization in one area. It is designed for those who wishto further their professional development without terminatingtheir employment.Program ObjectivesThe objectives of the MBA program at WSC are two-fold:(1) to improve and enhance the management skills of professionalsin business, industry and government; and (2) to developfuture executive leadership. The emphasis in this programis on decision making, problem solving, understanding the roleof business in society, and development of the students’ capacityto progress to positions of executive responsibility.MBA DegreeCandidates for the MBA degree will enroll in the followingprogram:Non-Thesis ProgramThe non-thesis option requires satisfactory completion ofthe 30 credit hour professional graduate program of study. Nowritten thesis is required. An MBA student shall file with theGraduate Office and the School of Business & Technology Officeone acceptable graduate paper. The file paper is written inBUS 692 and must be accepted by the MBA file paper committeeand filed in the WSC Graduate Office.General Degree RequirementsTotal Semester CreditsThe MBA consists of a minimum of 30 semester credithours.GradesA minimum overall average of “B” (3.00 on a 4.00 scale)will be required of all graduate students. This average is basedon all courses attempted. In computing this average, no gradebelow a “C” for WSC courses will be accepted toward completionof the MBA. A “C-” is not acceptable. A course receivingan S/NC grade cannot be used in the MBA degree program.At least 30 credit hours must be beyond the common body ofknowledge component in courses normally reserved for graduatestudents.Time LimitCommencing with the date of first course registration,all requirements for the degree must be met within seven (7)calendar years. Courses can be no more than 7 years old at thetime of graduation.Final ExaminationNo comprehensive final examination is required. However,BUS 692 Administrative Policy will be utilized as acapstone course for all MBA candidates.Program Admission CriteriaApplicants will be screened and evaluated on a number offactors that evidence high promise of academic achievement.Each applicant must be approved by the Director of the MBAprogram and the Dean of Business and Technology. All of thefollowing factors are considered together in granting admissionto the program.1. Admission is determined primarily by a combination ofupper level undergraduate GPA and score on the GraduateManagement Admission Test. The student must have:1,000 points or more based upon the following formula:200 times the upper level GPA (4.00 system) plus theGMAT score or 950 points based on the formula: 200times the overall GPA plus the GMAT score. Candidatesmust achieve a minimum GMAT score of 450.2. Other measures or indicators of high promise that will bereviewed are:a. Names and addresses of three referencesb. Relevant work and leadership experiencec. Performance on other testing devicesd. Rank in graduating class
