130 <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>PED 106 Weight Control (1) A course designed for anincreased awareness of the essential components of weightmanagement. Emphasis on nutrition, fitness and lifestylechanges to improve students general well being. Willcombine with PED 103 to fulfill the Gen Ed Requirements.PED 111 Folk and Recreational Dancing (1) An individualizedprescribed fitness activity course based on the assessmentresults in PED 103. Teaching skills and techniques usedin executing all basic steps for folk dances, social dances,and square dances as applied to elementary and secondarygroups and recreational groups. Will combine with PED 103to fulfill the Gen Ed Requirements.PED 122 Squad Participation (1) Credit for student-athleteparticipation in athletics. Regular attendance and participationis required in all activities of an intercollegiate team.Must be a student-athlete to enroll. Course may be repeatedfor a maximum of two (2) credit hours. Instructor signaturerequired.PED 130 Introduction to Sports Medicine (3) An introductionto the disciplines within Sports Medicine includingthe historical background, terminology, technology,professional associations, and career opportunities. Thiscourse will include up to 10 hours of out-of-class jobshadowing experience.PED 131 Introductory Swimming (1) For non-swimmers whowish to learn how to swim. Will combine with PED 103 tofulfill the Gen Ed Requirements.PED 140 Introduction to Sport Management (3) A study of thehistory and philosophy of sport including the emergence ofthe field of sport management. Surveys of the sub-fields ofsport psychology, sociology of sport, sport marketing andpromotion, economics of sport, sport media, professionalsport and collegiate sport are investigated along with astrong emphasis of ethics in sport. A 3.0 is required in thiscourse for the major and minor in Sport Management.PED 151 Introduction to Health and Physical Education (2)A study of the foundations and philosophies of Healthand Physical Education with a review of the history andprinciples of each.PED 171 Elementary School Health and Physical Education(3) Identification, practice, and presentation of movementeducation, fundamentals, and specialized skills as theyrelate to the needs and characteristics of elementary agechildren. Includes the study of fitness, games, rhythms,manipulative activities, apparatus, stunts and tumbling, andsport-related skills appropriate to K-6.PED 200 Introduction to Motor Learning and Development(3) A study of the physical, mental, and emotional factorsthat affect normal growth and development, and of thephysiological and psychological factors that are relatedto the acquisition of motor skills. Special considerationis given to the teacher/coach’s role in facilitating motorlearning.PED 203 Lifestyle Management (1) An individualizedprescribed fitness activity course based on the assessmentresults in PED 103. Special sections will be offered foradapted students, students with special control problems,and students who desire to establish an individualizedpersonal fitness program. Students may also meet thisrequirement by electing to enroll in advanced skill activitycourses, to include PED 220 through 230.PED 205 Anatomy & Physiology II (3) Prerequisite: PED105. A continuation of the study of the physiologicalprocesses and anatomical features of the body which arerelated to and affected by physical activity and training.Systems include the nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular,and respiratory. the study of metabolic and renal physiologywill be addressed in the context of these systems.PED 207 Athletic Performance and Nutrition (3) This coursewill enable the student to attain a better understanding ofthe dynamic relationship between nutrition and humanphysiological processes akin to athletics and exercise.PED 220 Fitness and Recreation Activities: Variable Topics (1)A variety of activities will be offered as announced in theregistration bulletins. This course will combine with PED103 to meet the Gen Ed Requirements, and may be repeatedfor up to six (6) credits.PED 221 Golf and Volleyball (1) Skills, techniques, andgame strategies; unit and lesson planning and principles ofteaching will be provided for majors. Will combine withPED 103 to fulfill the Gen Ed Requirements.PED 224 Fitness and Pickle-Ball (1) Skills, techniques, andgame strategies; unit and lesson planning and principles ofteaching will be provided for majors. Will combine withPED 103 to fulfill the Gen Ed Requirements.PED 226 Training for Agility and Sports Performance (1) Acourse designed for the improvement of agility, speed,power and strength. Training includes sprint training,plyometrics, resistance training and other current trainingstrategies. This course is intended for students seekingtraining for pre-employment physical performance tests,or students wishing to improve sports performance. Willcombine with PED 103 to fulfill the Gen Ed Requirements.PED 227 Weight Training (1) Fundamental skills in the useof free weights and weight machines and the techniquesfor developing strength and fitness will be provided formajors. Will combine with PED 103 to fulfill the Gen EdRequirements.PED 228 Aquacising and Water Games (1) Skills andprogressive steps for water fitness and water games; unitand lesson planning and principles of teaching will beprovided for majors. Will combine with PED 103 to fulfillthe Gen Ed Requirements.
