16FUTURAMA Afterschool ProgramProviding education, enrichment, resources and opportunities for the next generation <strong>of</strong> leadersAbout us…The Futurama After-School Program at <strong>Galileo</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> providesa variety <strong>of</strong> free, on-campus academic and enrichment activities.Programs occur daily after school.Our Academic program consists <strong>of</strong> Drop-in Tutoring in Math, <strong>Science</strong>,ELD, Social Studies and Online Credit Recovery for studentswho are falling behind.Our Enrichment program includes Art Club and Dance classes,which vary from Samoan, Latin, Indian, Hip Hop, and Break dancing.School <strong>of</strong> Rock and DJ Classes are also <strong>of</strong>fered.Teachers lead most programs while outside instructors facilitateothers. All activities take place on-campus under adult supervision.Enrichment ServicesDANCE PROGRAMIn our program students work together to learn dance, and performthroughout the city at community events, fundraisers, andfamily events. Indian, Latin, Hip Hop, Samoan, and Break Dancingare <strong>of</strong>fered. If you are having an event and would like danceperformers, please contact us.YOUTH SPEAKSThis poetry program <strong>of</strong>fered by Youth Speaks provides studentswith critical thinking, creative writing, and public speaking skills.Students have the opportunity to participate in Poetry Slamsthroughout the Bay Area.BUILDING WITH BOOKSBuilding with Books (BwB) engages American youth throughin-class and after-school programs in 108 high schools. Studentsalso volunteer in their local communities and help build schoolsin developing countries. BwB has built 250 schools in villagesworldwide, providing more than 108,000 children and parentswith access to education.SCHOOL OF ROCKJust like the movie, students get the opportunity to learn andplay instruments, forms bands and rock out creating their ownmusic and covers. Students perform at various music events inthe city.AUDIO PRODUCTIONStudent learn how to DJ, make beats, records vocals, producemusic, learn the technology <strong>of</strong> audio production and learn aboutsound engineering.MARTIAL ARTSJanet Gee’s Martial Arts Training facilitates the cultivation <strong>of</strong>warrior consciousness...and much, much more. Drawing fromtraditional martial arts, while incorporating modern body-minddisciplines, Janet Gee has developed a unique approach tothe Way <strong>of</strong> the Warrior. She shares her extensive knowledge inall these disciplines in a dedicated effort to help her studentsachieve that sense <strong>of</strong> wholeness we all seek.Educational ServicesCYBER HIGHStudents that are behind in graduation requirements have theopportunity to take online classes at school to recover credits.Students who want a grade for college requirements have theopportunity to retake a class for a better grade.TUTORINGAfter school tutoring service run by teachers and staff helpstudents get that additional support to complete homeworkand class projects.
