10Digital MediaArts PathwayWhy Computer Graphics: Why Websites?Why Video Productions? Why Multimedia?21st Century businesses need workers who can use the mostcurrent technology to convey information.These classes are not about which keys to hit on a computerkeyboard. Digital & Media Pathway students will understand howto approach new computer applications, how to process andpresent information, and how to use design and creativity tocommunicate ideas.Year One: Web DesignStudents will learn to use Photoshop for image creation andmanipulation, HTML and CSS to build webpages, Dreamweaverto manage websites, and Flash to add movement and interactivityto their creations. Students will also work on teams to buildlarge-scale web projects and gain experience with teamwork,problem solving and responsibility. This is a hands-on class availablefor <strong>Galileo</strong> 10th and 11th graders.Year Two: Media ArtsStudents will use camcorders and Adobe Premiere s<strong>of</strong>tware tocreate short videos for self-expression, to expand their knowledge<strong>of</strong> social issues, and to serve the school community. Studentswill also gain understanding <strong>of</strong> film as an art form and <strong>of</strong>media literacy for our media-saturated society. Teamwork, leadershipand creative problem solving are also key aspects <strong>of</strong> thishands-on class. Prerequisite: Web Design or Instructor’s Approval.ART IS WHAT WE DOCOMPUTERS ARE WHAT WE USECOMMUNICATION IS WHAT WE LEARNStudents create websites and animations.Students videotape school activities & make their own movies.Students are in charge <strong>of</strong> G-House broadcasts.Students learn teamwork, solve problems, and meet deadlines.A Fine Arts Pathway for the 12st CenturyThe classes in <strong>Galileo</strong>’s Digital Arts & Media Pathway are acceptedfor Fine Arts Credits by the University <strong>of</strong> California.<strong>Galileo</strong>’s Digital Arts & Media Pathway uses state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art AdobeS<strong>of</strong>tware. Adobe has supported our students throughout itsYouth Voices initiative since Fall 2005 with donations <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware,guest instructors, pr<strong>of</strong>essional development and money.
