HilaryDubois, the <strong>Arkansas</strong> <strong>National</strong><strong>Guard</strong> Yellow RibbonReintegration ProgramManager. “They canlearn from various serviceproviders about the benefitsand services that areavailable to them becauseof their deployment.”Throughout the day,Soldiers and their Familiesattended breakoutsessions based on theirspecific needs. Some ofthe sessions included finance,power struggleswith children, educationand how to write a resume.“We have attendedsome classes for the kids,such as ‘picking your battles’and ‘how to talk toyour kids’,” said Staff Sgt.Chris Brown, a 1037th2nd platoon leader. “Ithas helped us out a lot.”Some of the serviceproviders in attendanceincluded <strong>Arkansas</strong> WorkforceServices, VeteransAffairs Medical Center,<strong>Arkansas</strong> State Universityand TRICARE.“We know the benefitsare out there, but wedidn’t know how to findthem,” explained KimTurner, wife of Sgt. 1stClass Kevin Turner. “Inthe education class, wewere provided with abook that shows us how touse this benefit.”The Yellow RibbonProgram is a Departmentof Defense mandated programthat was establishedin 2008. The program isavailable to all <strong>National</strong><strong>Guard</strong> units to include Air<strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> as well asall Reserve units withinthe state.“We have received a lotof feedback from Families,”said Dubois. “It wasdefinitely valuable.”The 1037th RouteClearance Company is acombination of Soldiersfrom the 875th EngineerBattalion’s 1037th EngineerCompany out ofJonesboro, and the 1036thEngineer Company basedin Paragould. DurneyROBINSON MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Ark.– Sixty-seven cadets with the <strong>Arkansas</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong>’sYouth Challenge program were honored in a graduationceremony January 14 that recognized their successfulcompletion of the program’s 22-week residential phase.Youth Challenge is a voluntary program that leadstrains and mentors at-risk youth so that they may becomeproductive citizens in America’s future. The programis free to all participants and is open to 16 to 18 year oldmales and females who have either dropped out, or havebeen expelled, from high school. Cadets must be drug-freeand not in trouble with the law.The program is centered on teaching eight core componentsof life skills that help cadets become successfulmembers of society. The eight components are: academicexcellence, physical fitness, job skills, service to the community,health and hygiene, responsible citizenship, leadership/followership,and life coping skills.Upon graduation from the 22-week residential phase,cadets are paired with a positive role model (mentor) toguide them after they return to their communities.MARCHING IN.
