6.4 Guest Family Program Some of our international students might like to get to know a German family. For those interested in such contacts, we offer our Guest family program. German families welcome international students into their homes and lives. Many decide to have a traditional meal at home together; other do various activities like hiking in the Black Forest, going to a local event, the pub etc. 6.5 International Student Community (ISC) The ISC is a student society within the AStA. Its goal is to bring different cultures together and create a platform for international exchange. Having a strong relationship with the International Center, the ISC complements the International Center’s program of events and excursions for international students. The ISC is open to all students. International exchange students as well as German students participating in exchange programs are expected to become members and make a contribution to the university‘s cultural activities. For example: • A 3-day trip to Berlin, day trips to Heidelberg, Konstanz, Freiburg, Stuttgart and other places, opera visits, company visits, cross-country skiing, hiking tours • International Festival, movie nights, country presentations, cottage weekend 37
7 Getting Ready to Go Home Before you leave Furtwangen, Schwenningen and Tuttlingen, there are several things to do. 7.1 Check out Students living in Furtwangen in the dormitory must inform the caretaker Mr. Dold personally in his office at GHB 6 about your date of moving out with a written notice 10 days prior your departure day. Please go to the Town Hall (Bürgerbüro) for deregistration (Abmeldung). You will need the green document for deregistration. 7.2 What else to do Don’t forget to close your bank account and to inform your health insurance (AOK or TKK) about your leaving day. Give changes of address well ahead of time. Remember also to return books you have borrowed from the library. Hand in the report about your stay in Germany (Erfahrungsbericht) as well as the evaluation sheet of the Buddy-Program. 7.3 Migrate within the country If you stay another semester at HFU, make sure to pay again the 37€ contribution to the student services. This also applies if you do an internship in a company and remain enrolled at HFU. If you move to another address in Furtwangen, you need to inform the town hall (Bürgerbüro). 38
