Looked after children or children whowere looked after: A “looked after child”is a child who is (a) in the care of a localauthority, or (b) being provided withaccommodation by a local authority inthe exercise of their social servicesfunction (see definition in section 22(1) ofthe Children Act 1989). Previous “lookedafter children” include those childrenunder the terms of the Adoption <strong>and</strong>Children Act 2002 (section 46 relating toadoption orders), Children Act 1989,section 8 which defines a “residenceorder” as an order settling thearrangements to be made as to theperson with whom the child is to live <strong>and</strong>section 14A which defines a “specialguardianship order” as an orderappointing one or more individuals to bea child‟s special guardian (or specialguardians). Applications received underthe Criterion A must be made by theperson with parental responsibility <strong>for</strong>the child (e.g. the child‟s social worker,acting on behalf of the local authority<strong>for</strong> a looked after child) <strong>and</strong> will need tobe supported by the following officialdocumentation, as applicable:Confirmation by the home localauthority that the child is looked after orConfirmation by the local authority thatlast looked after the child confirmingthat the child was looked afterimmediately prior to the issuing of oneof the following ordersI. Adoption orderII. Residence orderIII. Special guardianship orderB. Children whose permanent home addressis in the designated area of the school<strong>and</strong> who have a brother or sister or stepbrotheror step-sister who have one ormore <strong>parents</strong> in common, or any otherchild <strong>for</strong> whom the parent has parentalresponsibility, living at the same address,who will be at the school when theapplicant will enter the school.
