(a) Applications received after theclosing date will only be consideredalongside those applicants who haveapplied on time if places have notbeen allocated ong>andong> there areexceptional reasons ong>forong> the lateapplication, i.e. a major change ofcircumstance. A late application willnot affect the right of appeal or theright to be placed on the waiting list.(b) The Reading Technical Academy willensure that someone independent ofthe school supervises the rong>andong>omallocation processes.Post 16 admission criteria10. The Academy Trust will apply aminimum criterion in relation toacademic entrance requirements ong>forong>admission or transfer to the ReadingTechnical Academy sixth ong>forong>m.In order to gain entry to the sixthong>forong>m, both internal ong>andong> externalapplicants must have passed Englishong>andong> Maths at grade A*-D. However,they will only be admitted to followLevel 3 vocational courses if theyachieve 5 GCSEs at A*-C, in which casethey also have the option of studyingong>forong> A levels.When the sixth ong>forong>m isundersubscribed all applicants meetingthe minimum academic entryrequirements will be admitted.When there are more applicants thatsatisfy the minimum academicentrance requirements than thenumber of post-16 places available ong>andong>after the admission of pupils withstatements of Special EducationalNeeds where the Reading TechnicalAcademy is named on the statement,the criteria will be applied in the orderin which they are set out below:1. Children in public care.2. Oversubscription criteria set out inParagraph 711. Applications ong>forong> entry in Septembermust be sent to the Academy toarrive by the first Monday of thepreceding January (e.g. 7 January 2013ong>forong> entry in September 2013).Applications received after thisdeadline will be considered if space isstill available or if space subsequentlybecomes available at a later stage inthe admissions ong>andong> enrolment process.12. There will be a right of appeal to anIndependent Appeals Panel ong>forong>internal pupils or their ong>parentsong> refusedtransfer ong>andong> external applicants (childong>andong>/or parent) refused admission butwhere both appeal, the appeal will beheard together.Operation of waiting lists13. Subject to any provisions regardingwaiting lists in Reading LA’s coordinatedadmission scheme, theReading Technical Academy willoperate a waiting list. Children’s position on the waiting listwill be determined solely inaccordance with the oversubscriptioncriteria set out in Section 7, or ong>forong>post-16 places Section 10, above.Where a place becomes vacant it willbe allocated to children on the waitinglist in accordance with theoversubscription criteria. Where a newunsuccessful applicant is added to theyear 10 waiting list all applicants on thewaiting list will be subject to furtherrong>andong>om allocation to determinepriority ong>forong> the place available.15. Looked after children, previouslylooked after children ong>andong> thoseallocated a place at the school inaccordance with a Fair Access Protocolwill take precedence over those on awaiting list.Arrangements ong>forong> admitting pupils to otheryear groups, including to replace any pupilswho have left the Reading TechnicalAcademy16. The Reading Technical Academy willparticipate in Reading LA’s In Year FairAccess Protocol.17. Subject to any provisions in the LA’sco-ordinated admission arrangementsrelating to applications submitted ong>forong>years other than the normal year ofentry, the Academy Trust will considerall such applications ong>andong> if the yeargroup applied ong>forong> has a place available,admit the child unless one of thepermitted reliefs apply. If moreapplications are received than there areplaces available, the oversubscriptioncriteria in Section 7, or ong>forong> post-16places Section 10, shall apply. Parents,ong>andong>/or young person in the case of 6thong>forong>m, whose application is turneddown shall be entitled to appeal.Admission of children outside their normalage group18. Parents of gifted ong>andong> talented children,or those who have experiencedproblems or missed part of a year, ong>forong>example due to ill health, can seekplaces outside their normal age group.Admission authorities must makedecisions on the basis of thecircumstances of each case, inong>forong>mingong>parentsong> of their statutory right toappeal. This right does not apply ifthey are offered a place in anotheryear group at the school.Arrangements ong>forong> admission of pupils asthe Reading Technical Academy builds toits full capacity19. The Reading Technical Academy willopen on 1 September 2013 with aPublished Admission Number relatingsolely to pupils in Year 10 ong>andong> Year 12.The Appeals Process20.
