Process of Application2. (a) Arrangements ong>forong> applications ong>forong>places at the Reading TechnicalAcademy at Year 10 will be made inaccordance with Reading LA’s coordinatedin-year admissionarrangements ong>andong> will be made on theCommon Application Form providedong>andong> administered by the relevant localauthority.(b) Arrangements ong>forong> applications ong>forong>places at the Reading TechnicalAcademy sixth ong>forong>m will be madedirectly to the Reading TechnicalAcademy.3. The Academy Trust will use ReadingLA’s timetable ong>forong> applications to theReading Technical Academy each year(exact dates within the months mayvary from year to year). This will fit inwith the timetable ong>forong> the coordinationof admission arrangementswithin Reading LA as agreed by theReading Admissions Forum, Reading LA,local schools ong>andong> Academies.Currently, this is:(a) The Reading Technical Academy willprovide inong>forong>mation to the LAs ong>forong> signposting to enable ong>parentsong> to view thedetermined arrangements.(b) September: The Reading TechnicalAcademy will publish in its prospectusinong>forong>mation about the arrangementsong>forong> admission, includingoversubscription criteria, ong>forong> thefollowing September (e.g. inSeptember 2012 ong>forong> admission inSeptember 2013). This will includedetails of open evenings ong>andong> otheropportunities ong>forong> prospective studentsong>andong> their ong>parentsong> to learn more aboutthe Technical Academy.(c) September/October: The ReadingTechnical Academy will provideopportunities ong>forong> ong>parentsong> to havetaster sessions ong>andong> learn more aboutthe Technical Academy.(d) 31 October: Common ApplicationForm to be completed ong>andong> returned tothe applicant’s home LA by thepublished closing date.(e) End November: LAs exchangeinong>forong>mation on applications.(f) End November: Reading LA sendsAcademy applications to the ReadingTechnical Academy Trust.(g) Mid December: Academy sends listof students to be offered places toReading LA.(h) January: Reading LA applies agreedscheme ong>forong> own schools, inong>forong>mingother LAs of offers to be made totheir residents.(i) 1 March or nearest working day:Reading LA makes offers to Readingong>parentsong>. Other Local Authorities willmake offers to their home residents.4. From 2013-14 there will be a nationalclosing date ong>forong> applications of 31October ong>forong> secondaryapplications. The Academy will ensureits application processes enableong>parentsong> to apply beong>forong>e thesedeadlines.Consideration of Applications5. The Academy Trust will consider allapplications ong>forong> places at the ReadingTechnical Academy. (a) The Technical Academy is a regionalfacility ong>andong> thereong>forong>e welcomesstudents from across Berkshire withcatchment areas which includeReading, Wokingham, West Berkshire,South Oxong>forong>dshire, Basingstoke &Deane, Bracknell Forest, Windsor &Maidenhead, Wycombe ong>andong> Hart.Grouped post code areas have beendefined as the method to ensuregeographical spread. This means thatapplicants living close to the ReadingTechnical Academy, or with siblings atthe Reading Technical Academy, do nothave priority over other applicantswithin the other areas.(b) A set percentage of places will beallocated ong>forong> children resident in eachof the grouped post code areas. A mapshowing these post code areas isattached at Appendix A.Procedures where the Reading TechnicalAcademy is oversubscribed7. Where the number of applications ong>forong>admission is greater than the publishedadmissions number, applications will beconsidered against the criteria set outbelow. After the admission of pupilswith statements of Special EducationalNeeds where the Reading TechnicalAcademy is named on the statement,the criteria will be applied in the orderin which they are set out below:a) Looked after children; or a child whowas previously looked after butimmediately after being looked afterbecame subject to an adoption order,residence, or special guardianshiporder. A looked after child is a childwho is (a) in the care of a localauthority, or (b) being provided withaccommodation by a local authority inthe exercise of their social servicesfunctions.b) Remaining places will be allocated asfollows: a. 30% of places allocated toapplicants within Area 1 which willInclude all postcodes in RG1, RG2, RG4,RG5, RG6 ong>andong> RG30c) 30% of places allocated to applicantswithin Area 2 which will include allpostcodes in RG7, RG8, RG9, RG10,RG12, RG27, RG31, RG40, RG41, RG42,RG45, GU46 ong>andong> GU47d) 30% of places allocated toapplicants within Area 3 which willinclude all postcodes in RG14, RG18,RG19, RG21, RG22, RG23, RG24, RG26,SL1, SL2, SL4, SL5, SL6, SL7, GU14, GU15,GU17, GU18, GU19, GU20 ong>andong> GU51e) Remaining 10% of places will beallocated to pupils living outside theareas listed in b to d above with thoseliving closest to the front gates of theTechnical Academy (straight linedistance - front door to front door,using GPS technology) being admitted.8. (a) If the number of applicants withinany one area exceeds its allocation,places will be allocated rong>andong>omly tothe applicants within that area.(b) In the event that places allocated toa particular group of post code areasare not filled, the balance of places willfirst be allocated ong>forong> children residentin any of the remaining post code areasby rong>andong>om allocation(c) If there is the same number orfewer applicants than places available,then all applicants will be offered aplace. Any unfilled places after allapplicants in paragraph 7 have beenadmitted will be distributed to thoseapplicants who live outside of the postcode areas using rong>andong>om allocation.(d) Applications from sets of twins orother children from multiple births willbe treated as individual applicants.
