A guide for parents and carers on admissions to Secondary School

Reading Girls’ School, is in theirprofessional opinion the appropriateschool <strong>for</strong> the pupil to attend <strong>for</strong> themedical or social reasons.4. Girls living nearest the school beingaccorded priority, as measured in a straightline from school to the home address.Distance is measured on the straight linebetween Ordnance Survey data points <strong>for</strong>the home address <strong>and</strong> the school usingReading Borough Council’s digital mappingsoftware.Tie-breakerIf the school does not have enough places<strong>for</strong> all applicants in a particular category,places will be allocated to those livingnearest the school measured on the straightline between Ordnance Survey data points<strong>for</strong> the home address <strong>and</strong> the school usingReading Borough Council’s digital mappingsoftware.Multiple BirthsIn the event that it is possible to offer aplace to one girl <strong>and</strong> not others theGoverning Body would agree to allocateadditional places beyond the admissionnumber to accommodate girls of multiplebirth. In the event of vacancies occurringthey would not be allocated until placesbecame available below the publishedadmission number.Home addressThe home address is the permanent addressof the parent/carer <strong>and</strong> their child/ren. Thatis taken to be the address of theparent/carer who receives child benefit <strong>for</strong>the child <strong>and</strong> is assumed to be the addresswhere the child spends the majority of itstime, even if she lives at a different address<strong>for</strong> some days of the week.Late ApplicationsApplications are submitted to the homeLocal Authority <strong>and</strong> must be submitted bythe date published by them. Applicationssubmitted after that date will only beaccepted <strong>for</strong> good reasons, ie. the familymoved into the area or illness prevented asingle parent from completing the <strong>for</strong>m. Ifthe application is accepted as a lateapplication <strong>for</strong> good reason <strong>and</strong> the<strong>parents</strong>/<strong>carers</strong> wish to apply <strong>for</strong> a place aspart of the selection on ability then a latetest date will be set in early February.Change of PreferenceThe school will not accept change ofpreference unless it is <strong>for</strong> good reason as setout in the above paragraph.Waiting ListAfter the 1 March 2013 a ‘waiting list’ will beadministered if the school has moreapplicants than places available. A girl’sposition on the waiting list is determinedaccording to the admission criteria. If a placebecomes available then it will be offered byReading Borough Council on behalf of theGoverning Body to the next girl on thewaiting list. Positions on the waiting list maygo up <strong>and</strong> down as late applications accepted<strong>for</strong> good reasons would be added accordingto the admission criteria. The waiting list willbe kept until 31 December 2012.Selection TestsThe selection tests will take place on Friday28 September 2012 at the school. The testswill be NFER test papers in Verbal Reasoning,Non-verbal Reasoning <strong>and</strong> a Mathematicspaper <strong>and</strong> will be multiple choice. Practicepapers are available from W.H. Smith.
