A guide for parents and carers on admissions to Secondary School

Form, as described under “Entry into theSixth Form” (ie full GCSE courses includingMathematics <strong>and</strong> English Language)• Applicants will be placed in a rank orderaccording to the points scored as above.C<strong>and</strong>idates with a score of 54 or above(“the cut off point”) will be invited to aconsultation meeting, subject to thenumber of applicants invited not exceedingthe available number of places.• The minimum available number of places is25 <strong>and</strong> the maximum is that which willbring the total in Year 12 to 120. (ie includingthe current year 11 students at Kendrickwho stay on into Year 12.Special CategoryThe applicant is a child in care.Such an applicant, provided she has a predictedGCSE score above the cut-off point (54) will beoffered a place.Oversubscription CriteriaOversubscription criteria will be applied if thenumber of applicants with a points score of 54or above exceeds the available number ofplaces.i) Places will be offered to applicants fromReading Girls’ School (the partner schoolof the Kendrick Federation.) provided theyhave a points score on or above the “cutoff”point.ii) Applicants will be placed in rank order asdescribed above <strong>and</strong> places offered inorder from the highest ranked down to thecut-off point subject to the availability ofplaces.iii) If there are two or more applicants withthe same score, the rank order will bedetermined by r<strong>and</strong>om allocation.In the event of r<strong>and</strong>om allocation being used, anindependent adjudicator will be appointed.Waiting List• The Waiting List will be used to offerplaces if any of the original offers aredeclined be<strong>for</strong>e 5 September 2013.• It will consist of all applicants above thecut-off point who have not received anoffer of a place by 15 March 2013 <strong>and</strong>any Late Applicants whose score is abovethe cut-off point. These Late Applicantswill be considered after those applicantswho met the deadline <strong>and</strong> are on or abovethe cut-off point have been considered.They will be invited, in rank order, to aconsultation meeting on the basis of:• the overall availability of places.• their subject choices• the availability of places in those subjects.Applicants who remain on the waiting list after30 June 2013, will be advised to contact theschool, after GCSE results have been published,if they still wish to be considered <strong>for</strong> a place inthe event of any becoming available. Details ofthe specific contact address will be given. Theseapplicants will be considered, in rank order, onthe basis described above. Applicants who donot confirm their continuing interest in a placewill not be approached until those who havecontacted the school have been considered. It isunlikely that any places will be offered after 14September 2013.Tie-break situationWhere two or more suitable c<strong>and</strong>idates on theWaiting List have the same score, an invitationto a consultation meeting will be determined byr<strong>and</strong>om allocation In the event of r<strong>and</strong>omallocation being used, an independentadjudicator will be appointed.In the event of any places remaining once allapplicants on the Waiting List have beenconsidered, the Waiting List will be extended tothose below the cut-off point. Where two ormore suitable c<strong>and</strong>idates have the same ranking,an invitation to a consultation meeting will beoffered to an applicant from Reading Girls’School. (The partner school of the KendrickFederation.) Thereafter, invitations to aconsultation meeting will be determined byr<strong>and</strong>om allocation, as described above.
