KendrickSchool may contact the applicant’s primaryschool to verify <strong>and</strong> confirm existingarrangements.Where special arrangements are required <strong>for</strong> thechild to take the Entrance Test, <strong>parents</strong> mustalso complete the appropriate section of theKendrick Application Form.Over-subscription CriteriaGrammar schools are permitted to select theirentire intake on the basis of high academicability. To be considered <strong>for</strong> admission to theschool all applicants must take the entrancetests set by the school.The test results will determine those on orabove the cut-off point of 109.0, below whichstudents will be deemed not to benefit fromthe education provided at Kendrick School, <strong>and</strong>these students will not be offered a place <strong>and</strong>will not there<strong>for</strong>e be ranked according to theover-subscription criteria below.All applicants with test results above the cut-offpoint will be ranked in the following order <strong>and</strong>within each category strictly by theirper<strong>for</strong>mance in the test:i) the applicant has statement of specialeducation needs <strong>and</strong> has Kendrick School isnamed on the statementii)the applicant is a child in care or wasiii)iv)previously in care but has since beenadopted.The permanent home address of theapplicant is within the designated area ofthe school <strong>and</strong> this address is the homeaddress of the parent(s)/carer(s) <strong>and</strong> thestudent.Applicant whose permanent home addressis outside the designated area of theschool.Designated areaThe designated area is determined by thepostcode of the applicant’s permanent homeaddress. Eg RG1 5BN: 1 represents district; 5represents sector.The tie-break situationThe following criterion will be used to rankapplicants on the waiting list who cannot bedistinguished by their per<strong>for</strong>mance in theEntrance Test, i.e. all those achieving exactly thesame overall score in the tests:• Eligible applicants living nearest toKendrick School will be accorded ahigher priority in the allocation ofplaces. Distance will be from the homeaddress to the front gate of the school.It will be measured in a straight linefrom the home address to the frontgate of the school using grid references<strong>and</strong> ordnance survey maps.Children who are not in the normal agegroupApplications will not normally be accepted fromany girl whose birth date is be<strong>for</strong>e 01.09.2000.Applications will not normally be accepted fromany girl whose date of birth is after 31.12.2001.In addition, such girls must be studying in Year 6at the time of application.Only in highly exceptional circumstances willapplications be accepted from any girl whosebirth date is be<strong>for</strong>e 01.09.2000 or after 31.12.2001.Applicants who sit the test early, ie whose dateof birth falls on or between 01.09.2001 –31.12.2001, <strong>and</strong> are not successful, will only bepermitted to apply again the following yearprovided they are repeating Year 6. Writtenconfirmation from the school will be requested.Any girl who has moved on to Year 7 will not beeligible.Applicants working in Year 5 may take the testproviding the home LA has received a commonapplication <strong>for</strong>m <strong>and</strong> has approved theapplication by considering the age, aptitude,ability <strong>and</strong> emotional <strong>and</strong> social development ofthe applicant. If they are unsuccessful or if theydecline the offer of a place, they will not bepermitted to take the test again in Year 6.Offer dateAll parent/<strong>carers</strong> will be in<strong>for</strong>med in writing, bythe home LA, the school allocated to their childon the national offer date of 1 March 2013.Waiting listsAfter 1 March 2013, a ‘waiting list’ will beadministered if the school has more applicantsthan places available. A child’s position on thewaiting list is determined according to theoversubscription criteria that applied toapplicants at the time of original allocation ofplaces. The list will be kept open until 31 January2014.Admissions outside of the routineadmissions round – In year admissionsApplications <strong>for</strong> entry to Year 7 after the end ofthe routine admission round <strong>and</strong> applications<strong>for</strong> entry to Years 8 – 10 at any time are treatedas in year admissions. If places become availablethe students on register of interest will beinvited to take entrance tests.AppealsParents/<strong>carers</strong> of students refused a place in allyears groups of the school, are entitled toappeal to an independent appeals panel.Year 12 Admissions Policy –September 2013 entryApplications <strong>for</strong> admission to the Sixth Form atKendrick School (Year 12) will be h<strong>and</strong>ledaccording to this policy.Entry into the Sixth FormFor entry into Kendrick’s Sixth Form, applicantswill normally have to satisfy the followingminimum conditions:• 6 GCSEs grades A* - C, two of whichmust be English Language <strong>and</strong>Mathematics; at least 4 should be atgrade B (in full GCSEs).
