The AppealPanel will be independent of the Academy<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> will be composed of three memberswho will include:• At least <strong>on</strong>e pers<strong>on</strong> who has nopers<strong>on</strong>al experience of the JohnMadejski Academy defined as a ‘laymember’;• At least <strong>on</strong>e pers<strong>on</strong> with experiencein educati<strong>on</strong>.Parents will normally have 14 days afternotificati<strong>on</strong> of a place not being offered atthe John Madejski Academy <strong>to</strong> lodge anappeal. The notificati<strong>on</strong> will indicate thereas<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> refusal of a place <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> how <strong>to</strong>appeal.Arrangements <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> Admissi<strong>on</strong> <strong>to</strong>other year groups - In yearAdmissi<strong>on</strong>sApplicati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> Year 7 after the end of the31 August <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> all other year groups must bemade <strong>to</strong> the home Local Authority <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> coordinatedby Reading Borough Council. Ifplaces are available when the applicati<strong>on</strong> isreceived a place will be offered if there aremore applicati<strong>on</strong>s than places available thenplaces will be allocated according <strong>to</strong> theover-subscripti<strong>on</strong> criteria taking in<strong>to</strong>account the waiting list.Arrangements <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> admissi<strong>on</strong> <strong>to</strong>post 16 provisi<strong>on</strong>The majority of pupils will transiti<strong>on</strong> fromyear 11 in<strong>to</strong> the sixth <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. There will be a<strong>to</strong>tal capacity of 200 in the sixth <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>m. Up<strong>to</strong> 50 places would be available <strong>to</strong> pupilsfrom outside the school. The minimumentrance requirements <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> the academiccourses available will be four GCSE passes atA-C grades. Students will be c<strong>on</strong>sidered bytheir individual needs <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> the wide range ofother courses available. These criteria applyequally <strong>to</strong> external <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> internal applicants.The detailed in<str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>mati<strong>on</strong> will be c<strong>on</strong>tainedin the Sixth Form prospectus published <strong>on</strong>an annual basis.Applicati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> admissi<strong>on</strong> including thosealready attending the John MadejskiAcademy will be c<strong>on</strong>sidered:If there are more applicants than placesavailable in a particular course of studypriority <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> places will be given as follows:a) Students in Public Careb) Students whose home address is inthe designated area of the schoolc) If the school does not have enoughplaces <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> all applicants within aparticular category places will beallocated <strong>to</strong> those living nearest theschool. Distance <strong>to</strong> be measured usingstraight line measurements betweenOrdnance Survey data points <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> thehome <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> school using digital mappingsoftware of Reading Borough Council.AppealsThere will be a right of appeal <strong>to</strong> theIndependent Appeals Panel <str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g> unsuccessfulapplicants.
