Where places become vacant theywill be allocated to children on the waitinglist in accordance with the over-subscriptioncriteria.AppealsParents will have the right of appeal to anIndependent Appeal Panel if they aredissatisfied with an admission decision ofthe John Madejski Academy. The AppealPanel will be independent of the Academy<strong>and</strong> will be composed of three memberswho will include:• At least one person who has nopersonal experience of the JohnMadejski Academy defined as a ‘laymember’;• At least one person with experiencein education.Parents will normally have 14 days afternotification of a place not being offered atthe John Madejski Academy to lodge anappeal. The notification will indicate thereasons <strong>for</strong> refusal of a place <strong>and</strong> how toappeal.Arrangements <strong>for</strong> Admission toother year groups - In yearAdmissionsApplications <strong>for</strong> Year 7 after the end of the31 August <strong>and</strong> all other year groups must bemade to the home Local Authority <strong>and</strong> coordinatedby Reading Borough Council. Ifplaces are available when the application isreceived a place will be offered if there aremore applications than places available thenplaces will be allocated according to theover-subscription criteria taking intoaccount the waiting list.Arrangements <strong>for</strong> admission topost 16 provisionThe majority of pupils will transition fromyear 11 into the sixth <strong>for</strong>m. There will be atotal capacity of 200 in the sixth <strong>for</strong>m. Upto 50 places would be available to pupilsfrom outside the school. The minimumentrance requirements <strong>for</strong> the academiccourses available will be four GCSE passes atA-C grades. Students will be considered bytheir individual needs <strong>for</strong> the wide range ofother courses available. These criteria applyequally to external <strong>and</strong> internal applicants.The detailed in<strong>for</strong>mation will be containedin the Sixth Form prospectus published onan annual basis.Applications <strong>for</strong> admission including thosealready attending the John MadejskiAcademy will be considered:If there are more applicants than placesavailable in a particular course of studypriority <strong>for</strong> places will be given as follows:a) Students in Public Careb) Students whose home address is inthe designated area of the schoolc) If the school does not have enoughplaces <strong>for</strong> all applicants within aparticular category places will beallocated to those living nearest theschool. Distance to be measured usingstraight line measurements betweenOrdnance Survey data points <strong>for</strong> thehome <strong>and</strong> school using digital mappingsoftware of Reading Borough Council.AppealsThere will be a right of appeal to theIndependent Appeals Panel <strong>for</strong> unsuccessfulapplicants.
