A guide for parents and carers on admissions to Secondary School

Any applicant unsuccessful in the sportselection process <strong>and</strong> all otherapplications will be considered againstthe oversubscription criteria set outbelow:3. Pupils whose home address is within thedesignated area <strong>for</strong> the school whosesiblings currently attend the school <strong>and</strong>who will continue to do so inSeptember 2013, in year 7-11;4. Pupils living within the designated area<strong>for</strong> the school5. Pupils not living in the designated area<strong>and</strong> whose siblings currently attend theschool <strong>and</strong> who will continue to do soin September 2013, in year 7-11;6. Other pupils.Tie-BreakerIf the school does not have enough places<strong>for</strong> all applicants within categories 3–6,places will be allocated to those livingnearest the school. Distance to be measuredusing straight-line measurements betweenOrdnance Survey data points <strong>for</strong> the home<strong>and</strong> school using digital mapping software ofReading Borough Council.Sports Aptitude TestsIf you wish to apply <strong>for</strong> a place as part ofcategory 2 above – selection <strong>for</strong> sportsspecialism you must complete the school’sadditional <strong>for</strong>m. The <strong>for</strong>m is available fromthe school, Admissions Team or fromReading Borough Council’s website.The <strong>for</strong>m must be returned to the schoolby 8 October 2012.The testing process will take place onMonday 15 October 2012. You will bein<strong>for</strong>med on whether your child qualifies <strong>for</strong>admission on sports specialism criteriabe<strong>for</strong>e 31 October. You will then know,be<strong>for</strong>e you need to complete your localauthority application <strong>for</strong>m, whether yourapplication will be ranked as category 2 ofthe over-subscription as above.Multiple birthsIn the event that it is possible to offer aplace to one child <strong>and</strong> not others theGoverning Body would agree to allocateadditional places beyond the admissionnumber to accommodate children ofmultiple birth. In these circumstances, in theevent of vacancies occurring after allocationday the Governing Body would not allocateany further places until the number is belowthe published admission number.DEFINITION OF TERMSSiblingThe term ‘sibling’ is to include children livingin the same household under the care ofthe same parent(s) or guardian(s) <strong>and</strong>brothers <strong>and</strong> sisters not normally resident inthe same household but sharing a geneticparent.Designated AreaA map showing the designated area is givenon page 51 of this <strong>guide</strong>.
