Late Change of PreferenceA late change of preference is one receivedafter the Local Education Authority deadlineong>andong> may jeopardise your child’s chance of aplace at this school. It is advisable to complete theschool’s supplementary ong>forong>m as this ong>andong> thesupporting evidence (baptism certificateong>andong>/or supporting letter fromChurch/Minister) will be used to place yourchild in a category. Failure to submit thesupplementary ong>forong>m ong>andong> the requireddocumentation will prevent your child beingput in the correct category ong>andong> mayjeopardise gaining a place at the school. Thesupplementary ong>forong>m can be obtained fromthe school office, school website,Admissions Team at the Reading LA or fromReading Borough Council’s website, ong>andong>should be submitted to the AdmissionsSecretary to the Governing Body at BlessedHugh Faringdon Catholic School.Fair Access ProtocolThe Governing Body subscribes to the ‘FairAccess Protocol’ operated by Reading BoroughCouncil. This protocol is designed to ensurethat there is access to education ong>forong> childrenwho have no school place.The Governing Body PublishedCriteriaThe Governing Body will admit applicants upto the published admission number of 150.This is an equal preference policy, whichmeans the Governing Body will consider allapplications made to the school equally.However, should there be more applicationsthan places available, applicants will beconsidered strictly in the category orderlisted below:-The SEN ong>andong> Disability legislation prevents aschool discriminating in its decision onadmissions on the ground s that a child has adisability. Thereong>forong>e, children will beadmitted without reference to ability,aptitude or disability. Children with astatement of special educational needsnaming this school in the statement will beadmitted to the school ong>andong> will counttowards the admission number. There willinclude children attending the Asperger Unit,who have a statement naming the schoolWhere the number of applications ong>forong>admission exceeds 150 ong>andong> after theadmission of pupils with Statements ofSpecial Educational Needs (see note h)where the school is named on theStatement, the Governors will offer placesusing the following criteria in the orderstated:-1. Baptised Catholic looked after childrenor previously looked after children (seenote a)).2. Baptised Catholic children with asibling at the school at the time ofadmission. Any other children.Priority within the OversubscriptionCriteria:The governors will apply the following orderof priorities within any of the above criteriawhen applications exceed the number ofplaces available ong>andong> it is necessary to decidebetween applications through a priorityranking:i. Social or medical need which make theschool particularly suitable ong>forong> thechild in question. Strong ong>andong> relevantevidence must be provided by anappropriate professional authority (e.g.qualified medical practitioner,education welfare officer, social workeror priest) (see note c)).ii. For Oversubscription Criteria 2 or 3above - The strength of evidence ofpractice of the faith as demonstratedby the level of the child’s Massattendance on Sundays (see notes f)ong>andong> g)). This evidence must beprovided by the parent/carer ong>andong> beendorsed by a priest at the church(es)where the child normally worships.Applications will be ranked in the ordershown on the SupplementaryInong>forong>mation Form i.e. firstly thoseattending Mass weekly or at least 3times a month, then once or twice amonth, then less than once a month,then those who do not attend.iii. For Oversubscription Criteria 5, 6 or 7above - the strength of evidence ofpractice of the faith as demonstratedby the level of the child's attendanceat services. This evidence must beprovided by the parent/carer ong>andong> beendorsed by the minister/faith leaderat the child’s designated place ofworship. Applications will be ranked inthe order shown on theSupplementary Inong>forong>mation Form i.e.firstly those who attend servicesweekly or at least three times a month,then once or twice a month, then lessthan once a month, then those who donot attend.iv.Distance from home (the address atwhich the child resides) to the school(closest proximity receives highestpriority) (see note e)).
