efo v³et Fefv[³ee SM³eesjvme kebÀ. efue.<strong>The</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>India</strong> <strong>Assurance</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. <strong>Ltd</strong>.Directors’ <strong>Rep</strong>ortEstbd. 1919handled amicably. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Co</strong>mpany has also achieved the objective of maintaining harmoniousrelations with the Unions and Associations.Sports Activities<strong>The</strong> <strong>Co</strong>mpany through its Sports Club organises All <strong>India</strong> tournaments in the disciplines of Carrom,Cricket, Kabaddi, Table Tennis and Badminton. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Co</strong>mpany had conducted 7 th All <strong>India</strong> TableTennis Tournament <strong>2008</strong>-09 in February 2009 at Siliguri successfully. Further, All <strong>India</strong> Badmintonand Carrom teams had participated in All <strong>India</strong> Public Sector Sports Board Tournament at Goaand Mumbai respectively. Kabaddi team of the <strong>Co</strong>mpany had also taken part in local tournamenti.e. Mumbai District Kabaddi Association, Maharashtra Kamgar Kalyan State level and MatrubhumiKrida Mandal tournaments. Thus, the <strong>Co</strong>mpany has strived to maintain and increase the spirit ofhealthy competition and sports activities amongst its employees.XXI. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IMPLEMENTATION<strong>Co</strong>mpany supported progressive use of Hindi in routine internal work as well as communication withpublic and customer service as directed by Parliamentary <strong>Co</strong>mmittee on Official Languages. We haveinitiated steps to promote use of <strong>India</strong>n Languages mentioned in eighth schedule of the <strong>Co</strong>nstitution.Few of the major activities during the year under review are outlined below :<strong>The</strong> <strong>Co</strong>mpany organized 170 Hindi workshops at different places during the year.All <strong>India</strong> Hindi Officers <strong>Co</strong>nference was organized at Panipat.Three meetings of Official Language Implementation <strong>Co</strong>mmittee meetings were held in Head Office.Steps for issuance of policies in Hindi only by amending provisions of section 3(3) of the Act wereinitiated during the year. In response to this Ministry of Home Affairs vide resolution no. 1/20012/07/2005. OL (policy-1) dated 2 nd July <strong>2008</strong> informed us approval of President of <strong>India</strong> to issueinsurance policy in Hindi only instead of bilingual. Policy in Hindi only is being issued in some ofour offices and efforts are being made to cover more offices.Publication of two issues of in-house magazine in Hindi, installation of <strong>Co</strong>mpany’s Website inHindi, option for answering questions in Hindi in all promotional examinations, translation of somepolicy documents in Hindi, incentive schemes for promoting Hindi are some of the other activitiesfor Official Language implementation.Inspection by Parliamentary <strong>Co</strong>mmittee on Official Language implementations was carried out atKavarati Branch under Ernakulam Regional Office.XXII. CORPORATE LEGAL MATTERS<strong>The</strong> <strong>Co</strong>rporate Legal Dept. was re-instituted in the year 2006. <strong>The</strong> first step taken by the Departmentwas to obtain a database of all legal cases pending in various Tribunals, <strong>Co</strong>nsumer Fora, Civil <strong>Co</strong>urts,High <strong>Co</strong>urts, Ombudsman and Supreme <strong>Co</strong>urt.This has been followed by review of actual files in operational offices under various Regional Offices by26
