Open LetterTo <strong>Rossford</strong> City Council:<strong>The</strong> vote to raise your payrequires me to ask for an accountingof your time to justifythe increase.I can respect that you feelyour time is worth more thanyou are being compensated.But I believe the public is duea formal accounting of thetime you put in, either on aweekly basis or a monthlybasis, on the business of<strong>Rossford</strong>.Specifically, I am lookingfor hours served via committeeor council meeting, communicationtime with outsideofficials on <strong>Rossford</strong> business,hours spent preparing orresearching upcoming topicsor requests before council, orother reasons why you feelthe increase in pay was necessary.When I first heardchanges were being made tothe compensation system andcredits for OPERS, I askedwhy?According to the BuckeyeInstitute for Public Policy Solutions,“If every Ohioan receiveda pension similar toLetters to theEditor<strong>The</strong> weekly deadline forLetters to the Editor is noonon Monday. Letters shouldbe limited to 300 words.Letters from the same writerwill be accepted no morefrequently than every 30days.<strong>The</strong> newspaper reservesthe right to accept or rejectletters, and to edit them forclarity and length. Lettersshould be submitted withthe author’s name, signatureand daytime telephonenumber.the OPERS career pension of$39,156, it would cost currentworkers $123 billion peryear.“On a per capita basis, itwould cost working Ohioans$26,851 per year to fund thepensions of retired Ohioans.“By 2030, the U.S. Censusprojects Ohio will have4.2 million workers and 3.7million retirees... At thattime, the per capita cost forworking Ohioans will be$34,373.”Our competition for jobs,which ultimately equates totax dollars collected to runour fair city, is not just surroundingareas; competitionis also surrounding states.We have a state next door thatis going gangbusters luringcompanies.
