4 th International Symposium of Biotechnology10 – 11 th November 2011, Bucharest, RomaniaS.P.10. RESEARCH ON LABORATORY SCALEDISINTEGRABILITY OF SOME BIO-COMPOSITE MATERIALSUniversity of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine BucharestKeywords: bio-composites, disintegrability, packaging materialsTANASE Elena, POPA Vlad, MITELUT AmaliaBiodegradable products are products that undergo biodegradation. In theory, biodegradable products, or BPs for short, are the perfect solution for reducing a large percentage ofthe waste products that pollute our environment. This paper presents the results of laboratory work, for a period of 90 days, after has beendetermined the degree of disintegration of some composite packaging materials. The disintegration degree of packaging materials is representing one of the task withinFORBIOPLAST (Forest Resource Sustainability through Bio-Based-Composite Development), acollaborative Large-scale research project, funded by the European Commission under the 7thFramework Programme (FP7).The trial presented here consisiting of 9 bio - composite samples which were investigatedunder aerobic composting conditions in a laboratory scale test according to SR EN 14806 (2006)“Packaging – Preliminary evaluation of the disintegration of packaging materials under simulatedcomposting conditions in a laboratory scale test.”This test method evaluates the degree of disintegration of the materials in the laboratory, under similar conditions of an intense aerobic composting process and the results are presented inorder to further selection of the tested materials for different applications.112
