Our team of expert engineersoffers individual technical support to optimizethe material selection and design.Products and ApplicationsDuPont Vespel ® Glass HandlingTechnology consists of two materialofferings: Vespel ® SP-22 and Vespel ®SCP-5050 which are available in customfinished parts, semi-finished blanks andplaque.DuPont Vespel ® SP-22 components are anexcellent option for short and medium runsat low/medium speeds that require morespecialized handling to minimize defects. This product has been used for more than20 years by plants around the world in glasscontainer production with excellent results.DuPont Vespel ® SCP-5050 components,a new product innovation, are the optimalchoice for either long runs at high speedsor heavier containers that require maximumlife of contact parts with minimum operationdisruption.Dead PlatesTypical Vespel ® applications are:• TAKE-OUT INSERTS• SWEEP-OUT FINGERS• STACKER and TRANSFER PADS• GUIDES and DEAD PLATESProperty ComparisonPropertyTypical PropertiesUnits SP-22 SCP-5050Carbon GraphiteStandard Glass Handling GradeIzod Impact (Notched heat aged at 315°C[600°F]/100 hr) ASTM D-256J/m (ft-lb/in) 28 (0.5) 33 (0.6) 17 (0.3)Oil Absorption (24 hr soak) % wt chg 0.12 0.02 5.7Wear (oscillating at 315°C [600°F]/25 hr) % wt loss 1.53 0.96 3.1Thermal Conductivity at 50°C (122°F) W/mK (BTU-in/hr-ft 2 -°F) 1 (7) 2 (11) 80 (550)Vespel ® SP-22 and Vespel ® SCP-5050 properties are averages of direct formed and machined shapes product offering.

Design RecommendationsDuPont Vespel ® components can be machined with regular tools used to machine carbongraphite and metal. (for the Vespel ® machining guide please go to www.vespel.com).Design CharacteristicsDuPont Vespel ® components have higher CTE(Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) versus carbongraphite components. In some cases, it may bebeneficial to use slightly higher tolerances thanthose used with carbon graphite. Refer to tablesabove regarding CTE and typical thermal expansionproperties to assist in design considerations.Contact DuPont for additional technical support.Europe/Middle East/AfricaDu Pont de Nemours (Belgium) BVBATel: +32 15 44 1384South AmericaDuPont do Brasil, S.A.Tel: + 55 11 4166 8531Area of expansionNorth AmericaTel: 800-222-VESP (8377)Email: web-inquiries.ddf@usa.dupont.comArea of expansionCoefficient Thermal ExpansionData for DesignCoefficient of Thermal Expansion inX/Y directionCoefficient of Thermal Expansion inZ directionUnits10 -6 m/m°C(10 -6 in/in°F)10 -6 m/m°C(10 -6 in/in°F)Vespel ®SP-22Vespel ®SCP-5050Carbon GraphiteStandard Glass Handling Grade27 (15) 16 (9) 8 (5)66 (36) 47 (27) 8 (5)DuPont (China) Research & DevelopmentManagement Co., LtdTel: +86 400 8851 888DuPont Korea Inc.Tel: +82 2 2222 5463Example of Typical PartExpansion in production serviceUnitsVespel ®SP-22Vespel ®SCP-5050Carbon GraphiteStandard Glass Handling GradeDuPont (Japan) K.K.Tel: +81 3 5521 2773Typical Expansion inZ direction at 600°F (315°C)Typical Expansion inX/Y direction at 600°F (315°C)mm (in) 0.264 (0.011) 0.188 (0.008) 0.032 (0.002)mm (in) 0.108 (0.004) 0.064 (0.003) 0.032 (0.002)web: vespel.dupont.comemail: web-inquiries.ddf@usa.dupont.comThe data listed here fall within the normal range of properties, but they should not be used to establish specification limits nor used alone as the basis of design.
