Students will examine competition fromaround the world while surveying the influence of race, gender, ethnicity, age, and class. Students compose clear, concise, expository essays using various modes such as description, illustration,definition, process analysis, comparison and contrast, and argument. To achieve this goal, students engage in frequent in-classwriting assignments and participate in regular teacher-facilitated peer-editing workshops. Students refine mechanics, usage, syntax,and style. In addition, students sharpen their understanding of documentation styles with a focus on MLA.
