Finishing his educationat Liverpool Collegiate Institute,Mr. McDougall served four years asclerk for the Cunard S.S. Company, atLiverpool. He then settled at Seaforth,Ont., where he conducted a general storeand produce business for seventeenyears, and was appointed Magistrate forthe counties of Huron and Bruce. InFebruary, 1882, he removed whereVirden now stands, and built the firsthouse and store erected in the place.His first four years in Manitoba, weredevoted principally to farming, and hewas the first Reeve of Wallace Municipality.Mr. McDougall has re-visitedGreat Britain thirteen times on business,and has travelled extensively inFrance, Germany, Switzerland and theUnited States. In religion, he is aPresbyterian. He has been marriedtwice : to Miss Marion Laidlaw offirst,Wavertree, near Liverpool, Eng., Oct.,1861 ;and second, to Miss Nellie Jones,of Seaforth, Ont., February 5th, 1879.
