811\ 7TICHAEL F. NOjLV|LAN, Alderman,V> St. Ann's Ward,estate agent and accountant,Montreal, P. Q., wasborn in Griffintown, September2ist, 1854. Hisparents were John Nolanand Ann McMahon, nativesof Ireland, who came toCanada, in 1840. Mr. Nolanreceived his education inSt. Ann's Christian BrothersSchool, and in 1870entered the St. LawrenceEngine Works, as timekeeper,which position heheld for fifteen months. Hethen entered the patterndepartment, and served fiveyears to the trade of patternmaker, and then remainedas a journeyman until theSpring of 1878, when hestarted business, as trader,on his own account. In1889, ne entered into partnershipwith J. F. Gourlay,in the Grand UnionClothing Store, where hecontinued until 1891, whenthe firm was dissolved. Hewas one of the first members of theYoung Irishmen's L. & B. Association,and held the office of collecting treasurerand corresponding secretary,is at present a life member. Healso an officer and member of themittee of the Shamrock Lacrossefor nine consecutive seasons, andgate to the N. A. L. A., and also League. He is a prominentmember of the C. M. B. A. andPatrick's National Society, anda member of the <strong>com</strong>mittee. Hefirst elected alderman for St.Ward, October aoth, 1891, to <strong>com</strong>pleteunexpired term of the late andwas<strong>com</strong>-Club,dele-to theSt.is nowwasAnn'sman Malone ;was re-elected Februaryist, 1893, and is at present chairman ofthe Market Committee and member ofLight Committee. Mr. Nolan isa representative man, and his markedsuccess is due to his energetic and intelligentgrasp of business questions. Inpolitics, he has always given his supportparty, in whose weljfarehe has taken a lively interest. Inreligion, he is a Roman Catholic. Hewas married, October 27th, 1883, toLillie O'Sullican, of Belleville, Ont.,daughter of John O'Sullican, a native ofKerry County, Ireland. Mrs. Nolandied, September i5th, 1892.
