74 OF N^TXONALD McLEAN, proprietor1 of the Alberta Roller Mills,was eighteen years of age. He thenserved an apprenticeship of six years toCalgary, Alberta, was born the milling trade, with John Hull, ofAugust i Qth, 1851, at Osnabrook Township,Stormont County, Ont. His stone mill on his own account, at Kin-Lakefield, Ont. He then conducted aparents are John and Margaret (Lamb) mount, Victoria County, Out., for fourMcLean, now living retired at Ottawa, years, and then removed to Young'sOnt. The former was a native of the Point, on Stoney Lake, where he continuedin the same business for fiveIsland of Mull, and the latter of Glasgow,Scotland. Coining to Canada,they lived on the same years longer, when he rented the LakefieldLumber Company's Roller Flourbrook Township, from 1848 until their Mill, at Lakefield, Ont., which wasfarm, in Osna-removal to Ottawa, in 1893. Mr. destroyed by fire six months later. TheMcLean was educated in the publicschools of his native township, and<strong>com</strong>pany rebuilt the mill shortly afterwards,and he then ran itworked on his father's farm, until he very successfullyfor five years. Removing to theNorth-West Territory, hebuiltthe Calgary RollerMill, in the year 1892, whichhas all the latest improvementsin machinery, andwith a capacity of 125 barrelsper day. The buildingproper is of stone 40 x 50,and the engine room is 40 x20. The main buildingis49 feet high. Mr. McLean,having a thorough knowledgeof wheat, and being afirst-class practical miller,has secured a large shareof the trade of that greatwheat producing country,and his extensive millsfigure prominently amongthe mills of the North-West.In religion, he is a Baptist,and in politics, a Reformer.He was married August4th, 1874, to Miss Emma,daughter of Wlliaiu Alford,Esq., of Lakefield, Ont.Mrs. McLean is a native ofPlymouth, England, andcame to Lakefield with herparents, in 1871. His familyconsists of two sons livingand one son deceased.
