MEN OK CANADA.TfW. W. DOANE, City Engineer,-I Halifax, N. S., was born atBarrington, N.S., May 3ist,1863. He is the son of Capt. HarveyDoane. Mr. Doane began engineeringwork in 1882, and from 1883 to 1891,was assistant to the Provincial Governmentengineer of Nova Scotia. Hewas engaged on the survey of theMusquodoboit Valley and StewiackeRailway, and in 1889 on the CarletonBranch, Heatherton and GnysboroRailway, and North Colchester Railway.In 1891 he received his presentappointment. Mr. Doane, when elected,was probably the youngest member ofthe Canadian Society of Civil Engineers.He has been a member of theCouncil of the Institute of Science,Halifax, since 1888, and is also amember of the Faculty of Pure andApplied Science, of Dalhousie Collegeand University, being lecturer on MunicipalEngineering. His work as cityengineer, embraces such work, as engineerof waterworks, public works,street grading, paving, repairs, etc.He has recently re<strong>com</strong>mended the constructionof new sewers, estimated tocost $100,000, improvement in the citywater supply, and other works, whichwill aggregate $300,000.
