. FRANCIS PAR-TRIDGE, M. A.,_ D.D., Canon ofSt. Luke's Cathedral, Halifax,N. S., Dean of the Cityof Halifax, and Rector ofSt. George's Church, wasborn April 2nd, 1846, atDursley, Gloucestershire,England. His parents wereCharles and Catherine Partridge.His father is of theold Gloucestershire family,of Partridge, whose seat isat Wishanger, and whichhas descended from fatherto son for the past 600years. His mother is of theScotch family of Gilniour,of Craigmillar, Edinburgh.Dr. Partridge received hiseducation at Lady Berkeley'sGrammar School, Wotton,Gloucestershire, and St.Augustine's College, Canterbury,England, of whichhe is now a Fellow. Hegraduated with distinction,and was Greek Testamentand English Essay prizemanin 1866-68. He heldthe position of ClassicalMaster in Dursley Grammar School in1864-65. He came to Canada and wasordained Deacon in 1869, and Priest in1870, by Bishop Medley, of Fredericton.He was head master of the GrammarSchool, St. Andrews, N.B., from1869 to 1872, Rector of Rothesay, N.B.from 1872 to 1882, and has been Rectorof St. George's Church, Halifax, N.S.,since 1882. He was Canon of ChristChurch Cathedral, Fredericton, from1879 to 1882, Canon of St. Luke'sCathedral, Halifax, in 1889, UrbanDean of Halifax, 1889, Examiner inClassics and Hebrew, Kings College,Windsor, and Lecturer in Canon andEcclesiastical Law in the same institution.He is also an examiner on theBoard of the Provincial Synod forDivinity Degrees, Examining Chaplainto the Bishop of Nova Scotia, andsecretary of the Diocese. He is alsovice-president of the Church of EnglandInstitute, and president of severallocal societies. He is also a Free Mason,P.D.G.M., New Brunswick and NovaScotia, 33rd A. & A.S. Rite. In politics,he is a Liberal-Conservative. Hewas married in 1868, to Maria Louisa,youngest daughter of John J. Gillet,Esq., of Bristol, England, by whom hehas four sons and four daughters.
