IVIKNOR CANADA..JOSHUANEWTON SMITH,M.D., Hampton, Kings County,N.B., was born at Smith town,Hampton, June 2Qth, 1855. He is the sonof the late Joshua and Charity Eliza AnnSmith, of Kings County, who are descendedfrom U.E. Loyalist stock. Hispaternal grandfather was formerly fromBrooklyn, N.Y. Dr. Smith receivedhis early education at the public schoolsin Hampton, during his spare time,while working on his father's farm.He then attended the Normal School,at Fredericton, N.B., during the term1875-76. After receiving his license aspublic school teacher, he taught inRothesay and Norton parishes, Countyof Kings, N.B. While engaged in teaching,he was also diligently studyingmedicine. He graduated M.D. at theUniversity of the City of New York,March 6th,1 88 1 and at once <strong>com</strong>menced,practice in Hampton. In religion, Dr.Smith is a member of the EvangelicalChurch of England, and belongs tothe Free Masons, I. O. F. Order ofUnity, Y.M.C.A., and Temperance societies.He is examining physicianfor the leading assurance <strong>com</strong>panies.He was married June nth, 1884, toAnna A., daughter of Ramsay Jackson,Esq., of Norton, N.B.
