1VEEK47f ;E> w,FATHEREDWARDJOHN BYRNE, B.A., of Sussex,N.B., was born in Sussex,N.B., September nth, 1867. Heis the son of James Byrne and SarahGreen. His father was a native ofTyrone, Ireland, while his mother wasfrom Toronto, Out. His parents wereearnest Christian people, who devotedtheir son Edward to the church andthe cause of religion, early in life.Father Byrne received his early educationin Sussex, where he made <strong>com</strong>mendableprogress. He entered St.Joseph College, Memramcook, N.B., in1882, and studied there until 1889,when he went to the Grand Seminary,Montreal, received minor orders, remainingthere two years, subsequentlyreturning to Memramcook, and finishinghis theological studies there. Hiseducational course was most successful,he stood high in his classical studies,and being impressed with his sacredcalling, had a very successful coursein theology. He was valedictorian ofthe class, in 1889, tne largest class thatthe college has so far sent forth. Hewas ordained by Bishop Sweeny, at theCathedral, in St. John, N.B., on the1 8th of June, 1892, and has since beenstationed at Sussex.
