IVTKNOF*461YOUIS HENRY DAVIHS, Q.C.,IM.P., Charlottetown, P.E.I., was/V born May 4th, 1845, in thatcity. He is the son of the Hon. Benj.Davies, of Charlottetown. Mr. Davieswas educated in the CharlottetownAcademy, the Prince of Wales College,and finished his professional educationat the Temple, London, Eng. He wascalled to the Bar of P.E.I., in 1866,appointed Q.C., in 1880. In politics,he is a Liberal. He was Solicitor-General of P.E.I., in 1869, and againin 1872-73, was leader of the Oppositionin the Legislative Assembly, untilSeptember, 1876, when he becamePremier and Attorney-General. Hisadministration resigned, in March,1879. He was elected to the DominionParliament, in 1882, 1887, and 1891. Atthe General Convention held in Ottawa,in June, 1893, Mr. Davies waschosen leader of the Liberals of theMaritime Provinces. He is presidentof the Merchants' Bank, of P.E.I., wascounsel for the tenantry before theP.E.I. Land Commission, and was oneof the Canadian counsel before the InternationalFishery Commission at Halifax,in 1877. In 1872, he married Susan,fourth daughter of the late A. V. G.Wiggins.He has four children.
