39EMERY DORfi, theJOSEPHfirst sanitary engineer of thecity of Montreal, was born ApriliQth, 1858, at Laprairie, P. Q. Hisparents were Pierre Dore and EstherBrosseau. He received his classicaleducation at the Jesuits' College, and1'Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal.After leaving school he accepted anappointment in the Railway and Canalin the outsideDepartment at Ottawa,service, on the Chambly Canal, whichposition he occupied for five years. Hethen spent one year in the UnitedStates, working on railroads, constructionand bridge work, after which hereturned to Canada, and opened theoffice of Dore & Charbonneau, civilengineers, land surveyors and architects,and was the senior member ofthis firm for three years, when he resignedand accepted the appointmentof sanitary engineer. His thorougheducation, professional training, andlong experience, constitute him one ofthe best equipped sanitary officers in theDominion, and being yet in his prime,his fellow citizens hope to enjoy thebenefit of his services for a long time to<strong>com</strong>e. In religion, Mr. Dore is a RomanCatholic. He is also a member ofthe Ancient Order United Workmen.
