EDMUND SPENCER,M.P.P., Farmer and GeneralMerchant, Frelighsburg, Que.,was born at St. Armand East, Que.,April iQth, 1846. He is the son of thelate Ambrose S. Spencer, and Mary,daughter of the late Major P. Thomas,descendents of United Empire Loyalists.Mr. Spencer was educated at theGrammar School, Frelighsburg, and atPoughkeepsie, N.Y. In the Spring of1868, he engaged in farming at St. ArmandEast. In December, 1889, withH. T. Spencer, he purchased the wellknownmercantile establishment of J.Landsberg, Frelighsburg. He has beena councillor, school <strong>com</strong>missioner,secretary-treasurer of the MunicipalCouncil and school <strong>com</strong>missioners ofSt. Armand East, and president andmanager of the Mississquoi and RouvilleMutual Fire Insurance Company,since 1884. He was first elected amember of the Local Legislature in1881, re-elected in 1886,this electionhowever, being declared void, he was returnedby a large majority in 1888.He was re-elected at the General Electionsof 1890, and again in 1892, by anoverwhelming majority.
