416 OR CANADA..4 TENRY A. POWELL, M.A.,cr]M M. P. P., Barrister, Sackville,VS> N.B., was born at Richibucto,N.B., April 6th, 1855. He is the fifthson of Edmund Powell, of Richibucto,now deceased. He received his educationat the Kent County Grammarschool and the Mount Allison University,graduating from the latter withthe degree of B.A. in 1875. After graduation,he taught mathematics in theMount Allison Wesleyau Academy fortwo years. He then studied in theoffice of the late Christopher Milner,and was called to the Bar of NewBrunswick in Trinity Term, 1880. Atthe General Elections of1890, he was returned to theHouse of Assembly, as arepresentative of the Conservativeparty for WestmorelandCounty. In thesame year, he and one of hiscolleagues were unseated,but at the election in 1891,he was again returned byhis old constituency, withmuch enthusiasm and &handsome majority. At theGeneral Elections of 1892,he stood head of the poll,and was the only Oppositioncandidate returned out ofthe four representativesfrom the county. He standshigh in the Province as apolitician,and it seems almostuseless for any manto oppose him in his ownconstituency. In 1890, Mr.Powell was elected a memberof the Board of Regentsof Mt. Allison University,to which position he hasbeen twice re-elected. Hetakes a great interest ineducational matters, and isnaturally enthusiastic inhis own " Alma Mater." He is an ableand popular lawyer, and is the seniormember of the firm of Powell & Bennett,who conduct one of the largest legalpractices in the Province of New Brunswick.In 1878, he was married to adaughter of Rev. G. B. Payson, a ministerof the New Brunswick and PrinceEdward Island Conference, by whomhe has one son and one daughter. Inreligion, he is an adherent of the MethodistChurch. Besides a very largelaw library, he has an extensive andmost interesting library composed ofscientific, literary, historical and politicalsubjects.
