400CHARLES REYNOLDS SMITH,1 Amherst, N. S., was born at that^ -""S* place, November i8th, 1854.His father, the late Robert K. Smith,was in his time one of the leading merchantsof Amherst, and a Justice of thePeace for the County of Cumberland.His mother is still living. Mr. Smithstudied law with J. T. Smith, Amherst,and afterwards with the late HonorableHiram Blanchard, Q.C., Halifax. Hewas called to the Nova Scotia Bar, January1 3th, 1876, when he began to practicein Amherst, where he has alwayshad <strong>com</strong>mand of a large and lucrativeclientage. He is a leading Court lawyerand holds a high position at thelocal Bar. In 1891, he was created aQ.C. by the Dominion Government.On several occasions, he has beenCrown prosecutor, under the NovaScotia Government, and is at present aMaster of the Supreme Court of theProvince, a <strong>com</strong>missioner of that Courtfor the County of Cumberland, and alsoa <strong>com</strong>missioner in Nova Scotia for thecourts of New Brunswick and PrinceEdward Island. In religion, he is anEpiscopalian, and has held many prominentoffices in that Church. Mr.Smith has been married twice ;he hasthree sons and one daughter.
