393^TNOBERT STIRTON THORN-TV TON, M.B.,C.M., (Edinburgh),"vs> Deloraine, Man., was bornMay 8th, 1863, at Edinburgh, Scotland.His parents were David andMary (Gavin) Thornton, the formerbeing a builder. When seven years ofage, Dr. Thornton was sent to GeorgeHeriot's Hospital, Edinburgh, wherehe remained eight years, and on leavingwas the medalist of his year. Whenfifteen years of age,he went to EdinburghUniversity, where he graduated,August ist, 1884. He then settled inDeloraine, Man., where he began practicethe same year. Since then he hasvisited Britain once, but his large connectionprevents him from travellingmore extensively. He has been amember of the Provincial MedicalCouncil, since 1886, and Coroner forManitoba for five years. He is alsohealth officer for the municipality ofWinchester, master of the MasonicLodge, of Deloraine, a member of theI.O.O.F., I.O.F. and C.O.F., and examinerfor different societies and insurance<strong>com</strong>panies. In religion, he is aPresbyterian, and in politics, an IndependentFree Trader. He was married,April 3Oth, 1889, to Mary, daughter ofRobert Johnston, of Princeton, Ont.
