OK 389ANDFORDHARRINGTONPELTON, Q.C., Barrister andSolicitor, Yarmouth N. S., wasborn September 28th, 1845, ^ n NewYork City, U. S. His parents wereMilo Sandford and Louisa Maria (Harrington)Pelton. Mr. Pelton was educatedin the <strong>com</strong>mon schools of Sydneyand Antigonish, and took a course inclassics and mathematics at Arichat,with Rev. R. F. Brine, rector of theEpiscopal Church of that place. In1862, he began the study of law withhis uncle, Chas. F. Harrington, Q.C.,and on his death, in 1864, continued hisstudies at Antigonish, with his cousin,Hon. Daniel Macdouald,who was afterwards AttorneyGeneral of Nova Scotia,and remained with him untila few months prior to hisadmission to the Bar, whenhe went to Halifax to preparefor examination, wherehe took a first-class certificate.He was admitted tothe Bar of Nova Scotia in1867, and <strong>com</strong>menced topractice in Yarmouth thesame year, where he has residedcontinuouslyHe since.has had a varied andextensive practice, and hashad charge of the criminalbusiness of the county, byappointment of the AttorneyGeneral, since 1887. Hewas created a Q. C. by theNova Scotia Government,May 27th, 1876. Mr Peltonbelongs to the Masonic fraternity,and is a Past GrandWarden of the Grand Lodgeof Nova Scotia, and a PastGrand Scribe of the GrandRoyal Arch Chapter, of thesame province. He has alsobeen actively connected withdifferent temperance organizations, andwas appointed, in 1890, a member ofthe Board of School Commissioners forYarmouth, which office he still holds.For several years, he has been solicitorfor the municipality of Yarmouth. Inpolitics, he is a Liberal, and a memberof the Executive Committee of the YarmouthLiberal Association.In religion,he is a Presbyterian, and for manyyears, has been a trustee and managerof St. John's Presbyterian Church,Yarmouth. Mr. Pelton was married,November i6th, 1869, to Mary Georgina,daughter of Capt. Joseph W. E. Darby,He has ten sons and two daughters.
